Who We Are
MI Poder is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit, non-partisan social welfare and civic engagement organization serving the Latinx population in Michigan. Our purpose is to strengthen the Michigan Latinx voice and leadership capacity to mobilize our constituents and increase participation in the democratic process. We develop and advocate for legislation, regulations, and government programs to improve the Michigan Latinx community's opportunities, growth, and investment.
What We Need
MI Poder is currently seeking a Communications Director to lead the design, development and implementation of our strategic communication efforts. A perfect fit for a strategic and innovative thinker, the Communications Director is responsible for defining the voice and establishing the public image of MI Poder. A major player during election seasons, this position plays a critical role in informing Latinx voters, influencing decision-makers and impacting policy change through effective communication strategies. We are looking to fill this position ASAP and will be accepting applications on a rolling basis.
Responsibilities of the Communications Director include:
- Create a communications plan and goals aligned with MI Poder's mission, align staff and stakeholders around the plan, manage execution of the plan, and ensure established communications goals are met.
- Sit on the MI Poder Leadership Team and serve as a thought partner to the Executive Director giving input on strategic decisions and collaboration as needed.
- Create culturally relevant, shareable online content effectively spreading the message of MI Poder's work. Develop and employ methods to track and monitor effectiveness and reach of implemented content.
- Serve as the voice and spokesperson for MI Poder to the public. Create press releases and media advisories. Pitch press stories to keep MI Poder relevant and in the public eye. Build and maintain relationships with members of the press.
- Partner with Field leaders in creating an online presence to mobilize voters by developing language and messaging in support of the Field Team strategy. Develop corresponding language and messaging for boots-on-the-ground Field Team members.

- A deep interest in strengthening the Michigan Latinx voice to build community power and greater social and civic opportunities.
- Demonstrated experience and track record of conceiving strategy and overseeing implementation for a program or project taking a concept from idea to execution with success. Preference for strategic experience to be within communications and/or media relations.
- Demonstrated mastery of writing compelling content for a variety of media, including press releases and press advisories, emails, social and other online content conveying organizational voice and tone.
- Strong ability to earn press coverage, demonstrating knowledge on how to get press to cover your story from making compelling tailored pitch calls to writing compelling press releases and advisories.
- Organizational aptitude, demonstrated in the building and maintaining of systems and processes for ongoing projects and deadlines.
- Ability to make decisions assertively and confidently, specifically the ability to lead an initiative by corralling intersectional thoughts from partners and stakeholders and making the right decision for the organization.
- Excellent critical and strategic thinking skills.
- Excellent communication skills, specifically the ability to understand the needs of your audience and adapt your communication style accordingly.
- Ability to develop and deliver effective bilingual messaging and content to reach our full community required. Strong preference for incumbent to be bilingual.

What We Offer
The salary range for this position is $70,000-$80,000 annually dependent on experience and bilingual skill. MI Poder offers a competitive benefits package which includes health, vision and dental coverage as well as paid vacation.
