Summary: We are seeking a dynamic and proactive individual to join our team as a Communications & Community Health Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for driving public awareness and education through various communication channels, collaborating with agencies and groups to enhance program effectiveness, and promoting Health Department services and initiatives across Knox County. Salary: $25.93 per hour
Key Responsibilities:
- Review documents and assist staff in preparing articles, interviews, social media messages, campaigns, and displays for public awareness and education.
- Collaborate with agencies and groups to enhance program effectiveness and coordination of services.
- Assist in developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive communication materials and public information strategies to promote Health Department services, policies, programs, and Community Health initiatives.
- Participate in selecting, preparing, and disseminating appropriate information for social media outlets.
- Plan and implement health education portions of in-service training programs.
- Work with Division Director to ensure accurate, effective, and timely delivery of public health messaging through multiple communication venues.
- Serve as secondary Public Information Officer (PIO) for the Health Department, including creating and launching media releases and answering media inquiries.
- Monitor and review website and social media sites to ensure timely and accurate public health information.
- Consult with Department staff on analyzing health problems and developing educational methods and programs.
- Collaborate on the development of Health Department-wide outreach planning and projects.
- Attend in-service training and meetings as required and serve on committees as needed.
- This position requires the ability to attend some after-hours and weekend community events to participate in outreach and education initiatives on behalf of the department
- Contribute to individual, team, and departmental quality improvement and evaluation activities.
- Maintain confidential information and use sound judgment in communications.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with courses in communication, marketing, or health education.
- Elementary knowledge of psychological and sociological concepts.
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office and Internet research.
- Understanding of social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
- Strong writing, organizational, project management, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
