Essential Duties: The position will provide Communications and Administrative support for the NCCOS Coastal and Marine Planning Program. This position will support a communications portfolio related to offshore aquaculture and renewable wind energy and other marine planning topics.
Specific duties include the following, with the support of and leadership from the Communications and Administrative leads:
- Develop communications products including infographics, weekly news articles, webpage content, social media posts, and short videos
- Work with design/graphics lead to develop and finalize figures, tables, other graphics and layout for publications
- Organize and develop materials for briefings with NOAA leadership, other governmental agencies, NOAA line offices, and the public
- Organize and input data and references into databases and maintain accurate detailed project records
- Prepare information related to travel, purchasing, and project-level tracking
- Assist with meeting preparation and scheduling - both in person and for conferences/events
- Conduct scientific literature reviews and maintain literature databases when necessary
- Review and prepare documents for publication
- Set and meet deadlines for completion of work in a timely manner
- Support data manager and marine planning coordinators to maintain team training documents
- Other duties as requested
Qualifications: Minimum requirements include:
- B.S. or M.S. in Communications, Biology or Environmental Science, or related field.
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in communications or project administrative support.
- Demonstrated experience with scientific writing
- Basic knowledge of coastal ecology, renewable energy, or related discipline
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work in the Google Workspace and Windows operating system environment, and proficiency in MS Word, Powerpoint, and Excel.
- Ability to maintain focus and quality on routine and repetitive tasks
- Ability to be flexible in responding to changes in schedules and job priorities
- Ability to work flexible hours, including some long days and infrequently on weekends from a remote environment
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Ability to follow safety standards and conduct work in an environmentally conscientious manner
- A valid US driver's license
- Ability to work in the US without sponsorship
- Some travel may be required to attend/host conferences and events
Preferred Qualifications include:
- Experience with development photography and video products
- Experience with Adobe suite products including In Design and Photoshop or other graphics or video editing software
- Experience with data management
- Experience with technical editing and 508 compliance
- Experience with tool and application development
- Experience with marine spatial planning methodology
- Experience with stakeholder engagement or environmental justice
