Maimonides Medical Center currently has an opportunity for a part time Communication Specialist. In this role, you will ensure that collaborative internal and external communication efforts between doctors, nurses, specialists, patients and other customers occur timely and efficiently to ensure patient safety and satisfaction. Under general supervision of a manager and/or designee and according to established hospital policies and procedures, independently coordinates clerical documentation, patient registration, and insurance verification for patients. Arranges initial and/or follow-up appointments for patients with the clinic(s) and or Faculty Practice physician(s). Demonstrable customer care orientation
Responsibilities include:
- Effectively handles upset callers and customers (patients and or family members, doctors, nurses etc.)
- Answers telephones and transmits messages accurately; makes outgoing calls;
- Provides paging services, overhead, beepers, fire alerts, codes, traumas and disasters when applicable.
- Performs registration function for patients when appropriate.
- Notifies appropriate insurance carrier of patient admissions and performs related insurance verification
- Arrange initial or follow up appointments for patients with the Ambulatory HealthNetwork or Faculty Practice offices utilizing designated scheduling systems.
- Ensures all paperwork and computer entry is checked for accuracy and continually enhances knowledge regarding processes related to transfers, registration, communication and insurance verification.
- Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
We require:
- High school graduation or equivalent required; 1-2 years of college or business school preferred.
- Good English verbal, written, communication essential
- Good interpersonal skills and computer literacy a must.
- A positive attitude toward healthcare members and a diverse and multi-cultural patient population.
- Knowledge of relevant software application preferred.
- Bilingual skills (knowledge of a second language) preferred
- 6 months - 1 year of Contact/Transfer Center experience preferred.
- Patient registration, appointment scheduling and insurance verification experience in a medical setting required.
