Job Goal
The College and Career coach/ESports coach is a 50/50 split position.
Northeast Iowa Community College, College and Career coaches work directly with high school students to help them determine what they want to do after they graduate high school. As a College and Career Coach, you will work with high school students from a wide variety of backgrounds, and personal experiences to help them determine and pursue long-term career and life goals after high school graduation. College and Career Coaches make an impact every day in helping students find their passions, explore work-based learning opportunities, and learn more about College and Career opportunities after high school.
The Esports Coach will be responsible for coaching NICC teams in multiple game titles, recruiting players to those teams, and managing the practice and competition schedules for those teams. This position will require work hours to coincide with practice and competition hours and thus will primarily require weekday afternoons and evening hours.
Duties and Responsibilities
The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class.
Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
Provide individualized, holistic advising and Career coaching for students through a variety of methods or tools based on the student's preferred style that lead to local employment or educational program enrollment.
Assist students in completing academic skills assessment, interest and Career inventories, work readiness assessments, and/or motivation and behavior assessment.
Provide work-based learning coaching services to assigned district high school students to help engage in College and Career exploration in partnership with businesses, economic developers, and local and state agencies.
Provide information and assist with extensive advisement and support to students and families surrounding the financial aid process especially FAFSA with the goal of increasing FAFSA completion within the high school.
Provide career facilitation for all levels of education including career planning, resume development, job search resources, job application procedures, interview skills, soft skills, interview preparation in anticipation of a student's successful completion of a program.
Develop, facilitate and coordinate a wide range of proactive services designed to help students become more independent and confident, and to identify and address barriers to students' success, including college readiness, time management, workforce services, educational resources, academic skill gaps, study skills, digital and financial literacy, and Career (soft) skills.
Assist with conducting outreach into the community schools to raise community awareness of education/training opportunities available through NICC and community partners.
Provide prospective students and applicants with information regarding admission to the College and related enrollment processes.
Facilitate student transitions from high school into career pathway certificate training at NICC, credit programs or the workforce.
Assist in College and E-Sports recruitment initiatives with prospective students by outreaching to communities and school districts through parent events, connections with local businesses, and partnerships with community organizations.
Works directly with the Esports coach at the other NICC campus for marketing the Esports program along with recruiting initiatives, practicing, competing and scheduling.
Evaluates and recruits qualified students and maintains specific roster sizes for the program.
Collaborates with the Admissions and Student Services for recruiting and enrolling prospective student-athletes from point of inquiry through registration.
Monitors, assists, and nurtures student-athletes' academic progress at the college.
Manages the Esports arena which includes technology and equipment.
Develop and adhere to the budget set forth for the program.
Responsible for submitting press releases after each competition and ensuring the NICC Esports webpage is up to date.
Oversee work study students who assist with the Esports program.
Coordinate fundraising activities to help with the costs of additional items needed for the program.
Responsible for ensuring the NICC code of conduct is being followed by each student athlete.
Promote the educational welfare and sportsmanship of the student athlete.
Know, understand and practice cultural sensitivity to under-represented and under-resourced populations in the community and at NICC.
Actively serve on college or external committees related to the grant as assigned by the supervisor.
Attend training or conferences necessary to meet the duties and responsibilities of the position.
Other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Qualifications
Associate of Arts/Associate of science with minimum 3 years' experience or Bachelor's degree required.
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
Must possess a valid driver's license.
Must be self-motivated and have the ability to multitask and work unsupervised. Must have strong communication skills and exhibit "people-friendly" qualities that include an outgoing, friendly, and empathetic character.
Knowledge of the NICC enrollment process, advising for program entry and completion requirements, and sequencing of course requirements to stay on track. Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Knowledge of office procedures and protocols. Basic knowledge of career planning, financial aid, and placement processes. Ability to navigate software utilized in aforementioned processes. Understanding and ability to work with a diverse student population.
