Position Overview:
The primary role of the Coffee FoodSafety and Quality Assurance Manager is to maintain internal Quality Assurance processes for the Roastery. Additionally, to develop and maintain preventative controls for Food Safety and Quality processes that pertain to the Roastery operations.
In addition, you will ensure Roastery is in compliance with all applicable local, state and federal Food Laws through alignment with all auditing requirements to ensure we have best in class of Quality Assurance and Food Safety programs to provide top quality products to our guest. All while maintaining a level of professionalism that is required when dealing with Food Safety and product quality.
DOING - What you deliver | Core Responsibilities
Ensure Facilities Compliance with FDA Requirements Related to Product Safety
  • Manage preventative controls and the HARPC plan for the roastery operations.
  • Main point of contact for state, federal and third-party audits - announced and unannounced.

  • Schedule AIB annual external audits.
  • Coordinate pre-audit self-inspection/readiness assessment.

  • Manage daily, weekly, monthly and annual QA documents, which include but are not limited to specifications, HARPC plans, internal audits and product process flow.
  • Manage and maintain specifications for internal and external products, ingredients, labeling and packaging for domestic and international uses.

  • Act as liaison to City of Brooklyn Park to obtain water potability records
  • Monitor compliance with HARPC program; review and sign off daily production documents as a PCQI within 7 days of creation. Follow up on any issues as needed
  • Assure raw material and finished goods specifications on file, assure Food Contact supplier letters of continuing guarantee on file, suppliers meet certification requirements for packaging materials
  • Schedule and obtain appropriate records for maintaining compliance on OTA testing with outside laboratory

Maintain Food Safety Training Programs effectively in the Roastery Facility
  • Provide Food Safety support by attending and participating in appropriate business channel meetings and/or conference calls.
  • Schedule and lead monthly Food Safety Team meetings, sending out agenda and processes to be reviewed in advance to ensure effective use of meeting time.
  • Remain knowledgeable on current, upcoming and proposed regulatory requirements and develop processes collaboratively with Roastery leadership to ensure compliance.
  • Develops, implements and maintains all Food Safety and QA written programs in accordance to AIB, FDA/FSMA, Department of Agriculture, Organic and Kosher requirements
  • Work with production team members on any product deviations on WIP or in-line process to assure proper trace backs and Food Safety is maintained
  • Conduct a pre-operational inspection as needed to assure a sanitary production environment in accordance with FSMA Environmental program and SSOP requirements
  • Provide training for Production Personnel on how to write infractions, daily log maintenance in compliance with regulatory and third-party audit criteria
  • Responsible for oversight, and to ensure, all QA/Food Safety and regulatory programs are followed by team members, visitors and contractors

Lead Food Safety Investigations for Roastery Facility
  • Lead/assist in coffee non-conformance investigations with company stores, distribution centers, internal supply chain departments and suppliers.
  • Work with raw material suppliers on identified corrective actions and follow up on appropriate documentation to verify supplier actions are being followed.

  • Act as key QA/Food Safety liaison with Roastery in event of a Recall/Withdrawal
  • Establish a sound microbiological environmental swab plan and program for the Roastery, maintain plan and laboratory records and findings; work with independent lab for test results. Follow up any high counts or pathogenic findings with third party cleaners and internal personnel
  • Investigates and provides written CAPA's for Coffee Complaints. Close appropriate SharePoint quality complaint records
  • Verify materials needing HOLD status are appropriately handled; follow up when product is ready for release or disposal to assure records are maintained appropriately
  • Monitor operational cleaning procedures for compliance to established SSOPs. Document infractions, corrective action and preventative action on SSOP checklist. Assure corrective and preventative action takes place in a timely manner
  • Create annual verification and validation steps of HARPC plan; write annual consumer complaint review to share with upper management validating CP's and PC's effectiveness

Qualifications:
Required:
  • Knowledge and experience writing, implementing and maintaining Food Safety prerequisite programs at a food facility; cGMP's, HACCP/HARPC, Recall Program, Environmental Monitoring programs, etc.
  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in a Quality Assurance department within a manufacturing or corporate restaurant company within North America.
  • 3+ years of experience reviewing/maintaining quality and Food Safety processes that comply with regulatory requirements for food and beverage, in either a manufacturing or corporate restaurant company.
  • Experience maintaining a working relationship with regulatory agencies; FDA, State Department of Agriculture, and similar
  • Expert understanding of emerging and current regulations applicable to coffee/ dry products
  • Experience in or knowledge of all applicable food industry related quality systems.
  • Experience and knowledge of shelf-life studies utilizing in-house controls and third-party labs.
  • Computer skills required; Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint.

Preferred:
  • PCQI certification a plus - if not certified training will be required.
