The coder is primarily responsible for performing CPT-4 and ICD-10 coding from appropriate source documents in accordance with all UFHP, B/AR and department standards related to billing protocols and compliance. The coder is also responsible for training physicians and other staff regarding documentation, billing and coding and for providing feedback to physicians regarding billing practices. The coder may participate with practice management in the oversight of certain practice billing activities (as in certain billing follow-up activities). The coder is responsible for performing various administrative and clerical duties required to support these functions and, on an as-needed basis, may be required to perform other tasks.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- CCS or CPC certification required or obtained within one year of employment.
- Knowledge of medical terminology required and knowledge of human anatomy and physiology preferred.
- Minimum of six months of physician coding and abstracting experience required.
