The City of Virginia Beach is recruiting for a Mechanical Code Inspector to join the Permits & Inspections division of the Planning & Community Development Department. This posting may be filled as a Code Inspector I or Code Inspector II depending on the qualifications of the selected applicant. The associated pay grades are as follows:
Code Inspector I G.20, $43,143.70 - $66,872.74
Code Inspector II G.22: $47,565.90 - $73,727.15
Duties of this position include, but not limited to:
- Inspection of new residential and commercial building HVAC installation, including repairs, alterations, additions, and /or renovations in compliance with the Virginia Mechanical Codes.
- Review of Mechanical plans for code compliance.
- Investigate Mechanical related complaints.
- Answer Mechanical code questions for contractors, homeowners, and citizens by phone, email and/or in person.
- Enter inspection results on laptop computer through Accela automated permitting system.
- Issue Stop Work Orders and Notices of code violations.
- Issue summonses.
- Appear in court to provide expert testimony in cases involving the applicable State and City code
- Other related duties as assigned.
Additional duties of a Mechanical Code Inspector II include:
- Must possess a valid Virginia State HVAC Master License, Virginia State (DHCD) Residential Mechanical and Commercial Mechanical Inspector Certification.
