Tesla’s Prototype Machine Shop is seeking a skilled and highly motivated CNC Programmer/Machinist to join the team and contribute to our mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.
The Prototype Machine Shop Team provides engineers and technicians across the organization with machined components as well as insight into machining and other adjacent manufacturing processes. Through the Prototype Shop’s efforts, we help enhance components and systems design by bringing conceptual ideas to the physical world. Engineering initiatives we contribute towards range widely from pre-production vehicles, energy systems, artificial intelligence, and other future-shaping products.
As a CNC Programmer/Machinist on the Prototype Machine Shop Team, we look to you to machine the most complex and critical components to meet engineering objectives. The work is no walk in the park, but you’re up for the challenge. Leading by example comes naturally to you. Not only do you shine on your own, but you ensure that the rest of your team is hitting home runs too.
What You’ll Do
- Program, setup and run 3-axis vertical CNC Mills in a low-volume, high-mix workflow
- Work closely with engineers to provide crucial input on design for manufacturability
- Cut material, build tooling, set fixtures, prove and run programs, deburr and finish parts
- Machine complex components to tight tolerances in various materials with tight deadlines
- Use various inspection and measurement tools to validate your work
- Tracking and documentation of machining processes and results when necessary
- Provide feedback to engineers, other machinists and programmers on design and process improvement
- Work as a team by openly collaborating with engineers and fellow team members
- Proactively communicate with engineers, management, and other team members through verbal, email, text, phone and other internal electronic communications
- Perform all assignments in accordance with EH&S and security policies
What You’ll Bring
- 5+ years of CNC mill programming experience
- Ability to identify and procure effective tooling and work-holding solutions
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of engineering drawings, documents and GD&T
- Thorough knowledge in the use of measurement and inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauge pins, bore gauges, optical comparator, etc.
- Thrives in a fast paced, constantly evolving environment with tight deadlines
- Excellent attention to detail
- Excellent analytical and mathematical skills
- Ability to remain positive and focused in demanding and stressful situations
- Flexible with ability to work overtime on short notice based on strategic needs of the company
- Ability to lift 50 lbs
