Job purpose
Produce machined parts by operating a computerized numerically controlled (CNC) machine, maintaining equipment and supplies, keeping an orderly work area, adhering to safety practices, and recording production records.
Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned)
- Prepare and operate CNC machines to perform tasks such as drilling, grinding, milling, etc.
- Understand specifications of the task at hand and the desired result by reading blueprints, mechanical drawings, etc.
- Prepare and load raw materials and parts onto the machines.
- Periodically supply the inspection department with completed parts to conduct in-process inspections.
- Check and maintain machine fluid levels daily to ensure functionality.
- Keep work area clean and uncluttered.
- Record daily production tallies.
- Offer suggestions to management to improve efficiency and work environment.
Qualifications
- Mechanical aptitude and good math skills.
- A keen eye for detail and a results-driven approach.
- Good communication skills.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Physical requirements
While performing the responsibilities of the CNC Operator Class I – Machinist’s job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to stand for long periods at a time. The employee is occasionally required to sit, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, twist, turn, reach, bend at the waist, and crouch or crawl.
Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
