Collins Aerospace in Jacksonville FL has an immediate opening for a CNC MachineOperator - Level IV.

This individual will be responsible for tooling setup and machining new parts by executing programs and operating a variety of computer numerical control (CNC) or manual machines (3 axis and 5 axis CNC).

This position will be involved in new product testing and new production deployment. This person will liaise with other operators and departments where appropriate to ensure the Machining section meets the required demands and reports directly to the Machining Supervisor.

This position is located on Blount Island and will requires some travel between our 2 Jacksonville locations, Busch Drive location and Blount Island on an as needed basis.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Set-up and Operate multiple CNC Machine Centers
  • Maintain a teamworking mindset
  • The machining of complex fiberglass and CFRP products
  • Aid the setting up and proving out of programs with CNC Programmer
  • Maintain proper condition of measuring instruments
  • Maintain proper cutting conditions on machining centers
  • Maintain proper documentation of executed operations
  • Meet or exceed required output hours
  • Meet or exceed Machine Shop FPY requirements
  • Meet and sustain Certified Operator requirements
  • Identify opportunities for program and work-holding improvements
  • Support and manage the machine tooling to best achieve drawing tolerances, including offset adjustments and tool wear identification
  • Communicate with co-workers and supervisor to coordinate activities
  • Coach proper usage and storing of measuring instruments to learn
  • Create shop aids and standard work instruction for process improvements
  • Maintain a clean and hazard free work cell
  • Achieve required part cosmetics with manual operations
  • Cross-train on different types of machining centers
  • Perform all required preventive maintenance in work cell
  • Participate in all team stand-ups and uses safe ergonomic practices in performing job
  • Participate in EHS risk reduction activities
  • Adhere to all Collins rules and codes of conduct
  • Look for ways to eliminate safety hazards and improve the overall safety of the workplace
  • Provide continuous improvement ideas to support lean and CORE initiatives
  • Check parts using specified gages or check parts using furnished fixtures to see that dimensions are being maintained.
  • Perform routine maintenance checks, reporting improper machine function and/or check parts not being held to the proper dimensions
  • May perform other job duties as required and available for overtime as necessary.
  • Support CORE and 5S housekeeping practices.

Qualifications/Experience Needed:

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract, the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • HS diploma or GED and a minimum of 5 years of relevant machining experience. In the absence of a HS diploma or GED, 7 years of relevant machining experience is required.
  • Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance.  Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements.
  • Must have minimum of 2 years’ experience with 3 and 5 axis machine center experience.

Preferred Experience/Qualifications:

  • Preferred 2nd Shift work schedule 2:00 pm – 10:30 pm.
  • A current transferrable US government security clearance is highly desirable.
  • Prior aerospace / marine industry experience is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience utilizing various measuring/ inspection techniques
  • Must be willing to obtain certification to operate a powered industrial vehicle.
  • Must be able to work in a standing position up to 8 hours per day.

Working Environment:

  • Work assignments require moderate to strenuous effort.
  • Workers must climb, bend, stoop, crawl, and stand for prolonged periods on concrete or metal surfaces.
  • Will frequently lift parts and equipment that weigh up to 9 kilograms (20 pounds).
  • Occasionally, may lift and carry items that weigh up to 23 kilograms (50 pounds) with mechanical lifting devices or assistance from other workers, if required.

  • Daily exposure to dust particulates
  • Occasional exposure to chemicals, wearing a respirator when required.
