Job description

Position Summary
The Department of Psychology at Jackson Health System is seeking a full-time Clinical Psychologist to provide outpatient and inpatient behavioral health services through the Adult Psychology Service, located at Jackson Behavioral Health Hospital.
  • Primary duties involve provision of individual and group outpatient psychotherapy with adults, with additional duties providing consultation for adult inpatients.
  • The Adult Psychology Service sees a large number of challenging cases including patients with HIV, cancer, diabetes, obesity, pre- and post-surgery patients, patients with chronic illness, and all DSM-V disorders. We provide pre-bariatric surgery evaluation, HIV support, and substance-use treatment groups.
  • A background in Behavioral Medicine is strongly preferred, with experience working therapeutically with patients that are have significant medical comorbidities.
  • Strong testing experience is also required (ability to administer, score, interpret and integrate projective and objective data into a comprehensive report).

Our department is embedded within a training facility, and the chosen candidate will be involved in supervision of practicum students as well as our APA-approved internship and fellowship programs. The position also offers the opportunity to participate in clinical research and presentations for staff and at relevant national organizations.
Preferred Criteria :
  • Licensed or License eligible in the state of Florida, a Doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA-accredited program.
  • Candidate must have completed an APA-accredited pre-doctoral and post-doctoral residency.
  • Strong background in assessment and empirical based interventions with an inpatient and outpatient population.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Diagnoses or evaluates mental and emotional disorders of individuals and administers programs of treatment; interviews patients in clinics, hospitals, and other settings and studies medical and social case histories.
  • Observes patients in various situations; selects, administers, and interprets intelligence, personality, or other psychological tests to diagnose disorders and formulate plans of treatment, and provides consultation to other mental health professionals with regard to test results.
  • Treats psychological disorders to effect improved adjustments utilizing evidence-based psychological techniques; selects appropriate treatment approach and determines frequency, intensity, and duration of individual, group, and family therapies. Assesses patient progress and modifies treatment programs accordingly; communicates with and counsels family members as appropriate.
  • Provides psychological consultations to other mental health professionals within hospitals, clinics, and other community-based agencies with regard to clients and/or patient care.
  • Provides crisis intervention in situations requiring immediate psychological treatment.
  • Participates in American Psychological Association accredited training programs and provides supervision to psychology fellows, interns and practicum students to APA standards.
  • Participates in educational programs, in-service meetings, clinician meetings, and workshops to enhance professional development and maintain currency of methodology and techniques.
  • May develop and implement clinical research programs.
  • Supports and maintains existing standards of the Public Health Trust, the department and the profession. Documents treatment in accordance with JHS policies and procedures regarding medical records; implements and adheres to policies that ensure patient confidentiality.
  • Maintains current knowledge of psychology practice. Provides coverage for colleagues as required. Complies with all requirements to maintain a Florida Psychologist License.
  • Ensures compliance to CARF, JCAHO, and all JHS and Department of Psychology policies and procedures. Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise).

Qualifications
Education
Doctorate's degree in related field is required
Experience
Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience.
License/Certification
  • Valid Florida license in specialty is required
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.

Physical Demands
Job function requires extended standing or walking. Must be able to carry objects weighing 21 to 50 pounds. Able to lift or move objects weighing 51 to 100 pounds with the use of appropriate devices. Jobs in this group require frequent visual acuity to perform activities related to extended use of computers. Work Environment
Jobs in this group are required to function in a fast paced environment with occasional high pressure or emergent and stressful situations. Frequent interaction with a diverse population including team members, providers, patients, insurance companies and other members of the public. Function is subject to inside environmental conditions, with occasional outdoor exposures. Exposure to various environments such as: communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a hospital and medical office environment. May also be exposed to needle sticks, airborne infections, medical gases, X-Ray, chemical exposures and other potential hazards. Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when exposed to infectious/clinical hospital environment.
