About the Role

The MLOA Clinical Director is a strategic leader responsible for directing a team of account-dedicated clinical and non-clinical staff providing a highly customized and agile disability and leave management program to a leading Global investment banking, securities and investment management firm.

The position requires a history of working as a leader in claims operations with a keen focus on continuous service level improvements and innovation. The position requires the direct management of both a claim operation manager, clinical service manager, and dedicated physician leads.

This position is accountable for defining, developing, implementing, and leading all aspects of Alight’s STD, Family Medical Leave, Company Leaves, and Medical Accommodations services to the client. The MLOA Director’s role is ultimately to ensure the scope of Leave of Absence services are effective, of high quality, are compliant, and meet or exceed the client’s satisfaction.

The Clinical Director is a key architect of the client service level success, leads with vision and collaborates with the client on continued process improvements driving holistic benefits management strategy and services.

This director role requires a dynamic, strategic thinker with a proven ability to shape and execute strategies, foster a culture of excellence, and position the claim service team as an industry leader in clinical claim management.

The MLOA Clinical Director will work collaboratively internally with Alight’s Workforce Management, Compliance, Finance, Sales, Account Management, and key client internal and external service areas, e.g., Employee Relations, Legal, and EAP vendor.

Operational Excellence:

  • Leverages technology, data & analytics, and program processes to drive exceptional service, productivity, efficiency, and cost management.
  • Continuously monitors leading indicators, trends, and performance outcomes, and develops strategies to achieve optimal results. Partners closely with Account Management and the Reporting and Analytics Team to ensure key metrics are current.

Collaboration:

  • Embraces “One Alight” approach in delivering exceptional cross functional collaboration with key partners across Alight, including IT, Best Practices, Customer Service, Finance, Compliance, and other service delivery business units. Partners closely with Account Management and Alight Leave Solutions Chief Medical Officer and Program team to envision and implement promised results to client, focusing on duration management and employee and manager experience.

Account Relations:

  • Exceptional customer service delivery leadership style to both internal and external customers.
  • Plays pivotal role in relationship management with Client, brokers / agencies, and Alight’s account management team, in collaboration with internal partners including product, sales support, and analytics.
  • Serves as primary point of contact for the client leadership team and holds a key role in customer presentations and meetings.
  • Direct operational changes on clinical case management strategies for unique scenarios which may or may not trigger the need to revise our best practice protocols for client.
  • Consults with client on clinical and RTW program development as needed.
  • Reinforces and adjusts strategy and business plans to deliver employer-centric capabilities and processes.
  • Provide close oversight of implementation of needed training of staff on instituting new protocols and ensures service adherence.
  • Successfully fostered strong relationships with clients, and brokers built on innovative proactive problem solving and consistent service delivery excellence.
  • Anticipates future trends and challenges, developing and implementing strategies to address opportunities.
  • Risk Management: Monitors performance and communicates results to the Claim Operations leadership team and superiors.

Industry Knowledge & Expertise:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of disability and leave concepts, products, medical terminology, and claim management practices and principles.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of industry trends in integrated disability and absence management.
  • Worked with broader organization and external parties to identify gaps and develop a plan to address.
  • Developed and recommended Claims and Service level strategies and tactics.
  • Assessed and evaluated business/technology partners to integrate products on various platforms.
  • Developed business plans to drive quality, efficiency, and service delivery.
  • Performed day-to-day execution of the STD & Absence Claim & Leaves Operations and/or comparable complexity in health care management.
  • Developed and implemented tactical plans to ensure delivery of claims quality, productivity, compliance, and service commitments.
  • Demonstrated the ability to ensure accurate Claim Management, and effectively promoted a culture that valued return to work and partnered with peers, and senior leadership to execute service excellence.
  • Demonstrated the ability to establish & maintain critical measures of success to meet or exceed market expectations and client needs.
  • Managed departmental budget and planed effectively for responsible growth.
  • Developed and inspired Clinical and/or Claims teams by providing business updates that align the team's objectives with the goals of the organization while maintaining an environment of trust.
  • Executed Performance Management Cycles - Established performance metrics with clear systems of measures and accountabilities that drive results.
  • Established a culture of openness, trust, advanced strategic and critical thinking skills, and inclusion.
  • Promoted a culture of constant growth, learning and improvement and actively provided candid developmental feedback.
  • Ensured that an effective system of regulatory compliance and internal controls have been maintained.
  • Routinely complied with applicable laws and regulations, and documented procedures that incorporated preventive and established defect controls, partnering with Regulatory Compliance and Risk Committees.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or similar health care field and a minimum of 5 years of clinical health care experience.
  • Minimum 7 years operations/service delivery experience within the absence, disability, benefits administration, or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a senior clinical people leader role.
  • Demonstrated ability in developing and executing strategy, and in delivering operational excellence.
  • Strong performance improvement mindset and proven ability to leverage data & analytics to drive decision making and process improvement.
  • Proven ability to motivate and inspire teams, and to maintain excellent colleague engagement.

Preferred

  • Advanced clinical training in nursing, medicine, or related health care field, e.g. Nurse Practitioner (NP), Physician Assistant (PA), Doctorate of Nursing Practice (NP).
  • Master’s degree in business administration
  • Designation in a healthcare, rehabilitation, or medical field, e.g. CCM, CDMS, COHN, etc.
  • Lean Six Sigma Certification and or formal Operations Strategy training.

Location

Hybrid work with regular travel to the client office in Jersey City, New Jersey.

Physical Requirements

  • Some travel 1 – 5%
  • Ability to travel to client sites as needed.
  • Nights and weekend work occasionally.
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.

Pay Transparency Statement: Alight takes into consideration a candidate’s experience, education, certification/credentials, market data, internal equity, and geography when determining an offer for a successful employment candidate, and Alight does so on an individualized, non-discriminatory basis. Therefore, an offer may fall anywhere between the estimated minimum base salary for this role of $183,200.00/year (for full time employees) and the estimated maximum base salary for this role of $290,700.00/year (for full time employees). In addition to a base salary, this position may be eligible for a bonus and/or other incentive plans.
