Job Description

Are you a leader? Do you inspire?

A true leader aims to inspire—and at Cedars-Sinai, that’s exactly what our Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS) do! Our people bring an unmatched passion to their craft and it shows in everything they accomplish, including ranking #1 of Best Hospitals in the nation by U.S. News and World Report as well as achieving Magnet® designation for an unprecedented five times!

Pulmonary Rehab treats adult patients with chronic pulmonary disease. Patients range from pre-and post-op lung volume reduction surgery and lung transplant patients to chronic lung disease patients with moderate, severe and very severe disease/dysfunction. Eligible patients must be referred by the physician treating the chronic respiratory disease. The Pulmonary Rehab Team is comprised of a Medical Director, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Clinical Exercise Physiologists and a Patient Service Representative.

We have an exciting and new opportunity for a CNS for the Pulmonary Rehab Department, an advanced practice nurse to take a leadership role in designing, implementing and evaluating patient-specific and population-based programs of care at the unit based and system level.

As a Clinical Nurse Specialist you are responsible and accountable for the application of the nursing process and the delivery of patient care for the specialty patient population. You will also;

  • Responsibilities are achieved through three spheres of influence: client, personnel, and organizational systems.
  • A critical component of the CNS is to generate and evaluate evidence for practice.
  • The CNS works collaboratively to provide guidance, direction and assistance to the health care team to maintain and provide optimum quality care to a population with pulmonary diseases.
  • Evaluate patients for their eligibility to participate in the program (i.e., interviews for relevant facts concerning the client’s social, occupational, functional and medical status)
  • Plan and implement individualized patient treatment plans.
  • Assess the learning needs of patients regarding proactive self-care strategies (i.e., upper extremity exercises breathing, retraining exercises, diet modification, performance to bronchial hygiene, use of metered-dose inhalers, use of hand-held nebulizer, patient compliance with prescribed home therapy). Individual instructional sessions are scheduled as needed.
  • Provide patient education on appropriate restorative measures and lifestyle modifications.
  • Provide and accurately document direct and indirect patient care services that ensures the safety, comfort, and protection of patients in a timely manner.
  • Observe and assess signs and symptoms of illness, reactions to medications/treatments, general behavior, and/or general physical condition to determine normal versus abnormal characteristics and initiate emergency procedures when indicated.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and the ability to identify and make special adjustments as required to the specific populations' needs, including cultural, spiritual, age, psychosocial, communication, gender, sexual orientation, economic, education, family and condition needs.
