The Clinical Manager at Cayuga Cancer Center works with the director of oncology and the multidisciplinary healthcare team to provide quality patient outcomes and satisfaction. The Clinical Nurse Manager has overall administrative responsibilities for clinical operations to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care. This position requires a combination of clinical expertise, leadership skills, and a deep understanding of cancer care protocols. This person demonstrates professional accountability by maintaining proficiency in assigned role and involvement in professional organizations. Pitches in when help is needed and offers assistance to other team members; builds and maintains constructive relationships; engages in behaviors that support working together as a team; demonstrates work flexibility for good of team regarding locations, functions, and hours


Job Responsibilities include:

  1. Clinical Oversight:
  • Collaborate with physicians, providers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop, implement and evaluate the overall nursing care and activities of oncology department.
  • Ensure adherence to evidence-based practices, standards, and guidelines in cancer treatment.
  • Monitor patient outcomes and implement quality improvement initiatives as needed.
  1. Staff Leadership and Development:
  • Supervise and mentor clinical staff, including nurses, medical assistants, and support personnel.
  • Monitor and assess patient satisfaction and feedback, making adjustments as needed to improve service delivery.
  • Provide leadership in recruitment, training, clinical competencies, and performance evaluations.
  • Foster a collaborative and positive work environment that promotes teamwork and professional growth.
  1. Patient Care Coordination:
  • Coordinate patient care activities across various departments within the Cancer Center.
  • Facilitate multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss and plan patient treatment strategies.
  • Address patient and family concerns, ensuring a compassionate and supportive care environment.
  • Provide direct patient care to cancer center patients following established standards and policies as needed.
  1. Regulatory Compliance:
  • Stay abreast of state and federal regulations, as well as accreditation standards related to cancer care.
  • Ensure that the Cancer Center operates in compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate with regulatory affairs personnel to facilitate audits and inspections.
  1. Resource Management:
  • Manage and allocate resources efficiently, including staffing levels, equipment, and supplies.
  • Develop and monitor the budget for the clinical department.
  • Implement cost-effective measures without compromising the quality of patient care.
  1. Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement:
  • Lead initiatives to enhance the quality and safety of cancer care services.
  • Monitor key performance indicators and implement strategies for continuous improvement.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities and accreditation processes.
  1. Education and Training:
  • Conduct educational programs for clinical staff to ensure ongoing professional development.
  • Stay current with advancements in cancer care and disseminate relevant information to the team.


Requirements:

Education -

  • Unrestricted NYS Registered Nurse License with prior chemotherapy administration experience
  • Current OCN and/or ONS Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy Certification

Experience -

  • Previous management experience two years or greater
  • Demonstrates ability to determine best course of action for resolving issues based on presenting situation; able to assess and view situations from variety of perspectives; can dig deep to identify the real issues; solves problems and/or seeks appropriate guidance to solve problems; able to work independently and make appropriate decisions in absence of "supervisor"
  • Communicates effectively and clearly both verbally and in writing; conveys information and responds to all in a credible, professional, and clear manner; speaks respectfully to all; keeps others informed of relevant issues; shares information; maintains calm in conflict situations, handling situations and people with tact and professionalism

Licensure -

  • Unrestricted NYS Registered Nurse License with prior chemotherapy administration experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Nursing or Healthcare Administration

Previous experience in a managerial or supervisory role within a cancer center


Physical Requirements -

Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., Use of computer keyboard); may require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 lbs), including boxes, equipment, IV solutions and stooping and kneeling (e.g., to pick up items from the floor, to remove and replace items on lower shelves and to file documents in lower file drawers); sitting, walking, or standing for long periods of time may be necessary; must be able physically to operate the equipment used for the job.
