Pursue and execute scholarly and service activities including instruction, clinical service, community service and administrative duties for the department; instruct medical, dental, nursing, graduate students, and house staff; engage in scholarly research activities directed towards the understanding, detection, and treatment of disease; serve on School and OHSU committees as approved by the Chair; engage in such public service as will benefit the community and the University; and serve in such administrative functions as may be assigned by the Chair.

The primary responsibilities will include test results interpretation and reporting, new test development, laboratory oversight with day-to-day management, and collaborative leadership with other Lab Directors. In addition to providing clinical service, the successful candidate will supervise and teach graduate and medical students, residents, and fellows, including those in our LGC fellowship. Opportunities for collaborative, and independent, research abound. Our Lab Directors are integral partners in our clinical service teams.

The Knight Diagnostic Laboratories (KDL) that comprise the clinical genetics and genomics labs have a national reputation for innovation, excellence, and personalized testing modalities. OHSU's Genetics Labs have been serving the region and nation for over 50 years offering prenatal, postnatal, and oncology testing. We are dedicated to patient care, research, education, and community service to improve the health and well-being of all Oregonians.

Clinical: Serve as co-director of the cytogenetics and molecular laboratories. These laboratories are established in cooperation with the OHSU Hospital and OHSU Knight. These areas provide staffing, management and oversight of the labs. Part of the duties for this position is working together to maintain optimum working efficiency, develop new tests, and improve the financial outcomes.

Education: OHSU is a teaching facility and you will be expected to teach medical students, graduate students, residents, and fellows in the laboratory setting, as well as through assigned lectures. You will receive your teaching assignments from the Department Chair.

Research: There are resources available for start-up research and on-going support. Faculty interested in doing research may apply for departmental research assistance and non-clinical time through the Department Chair.

Administration: Administrative and other duties may be assigned based on department needs and your areas of expertise and interest. There will be opportunities to participate in departmental management and to serve on institutional committees.

Application Requirements: Please submit a single PDF containing a cover letter, CV, and a research and academic statement describing your program vision, clinical and academic interests, and contact information for three professional references. Please also include a statement describing your interest in, or efforts toward, furthering diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in your research, mentoring, and service.

Consideration of applicants will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Please direct inquiries to Susan Hayflick, MD, PhD at hayflick@ohsu.edu
