Clinical Lab Scientist Trainee - 2 Positions

SUMMARY: Under close supervision, to receive instruction in the skills, duties, and responsibilities of a qualified Clinical Laboratory scientist; to perform the less difficult Clinical Laboratory tests and procedures; to record and report test results and to obtain specimens from patients. Clinical Laboratory Scientist Trainees have completed their academic training, but have no clinical experience as professional technologists. Incumbents for this one year internship program are selected for their interest and aptitude for training, in that positions at the higher class of Clinical Laboratory Scientist I are filled by persons who have completed their internship and are eligible for a valid license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in California. Performs related duties as required.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: NOTE:The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification.

1. Performs hematological procedures such as differential cell counts, complete blood counts, Wintrobe indices, and determines presence of blood factors.

2. Performs some qualitative and quantitative chemical tests, such as blood glucose, urea nitrogen, and Creatinine.

3. Tests urine qualitatively and quantitatively for presence of biochemicals, casts, cells, or bacteria and records results of tests.

4. Examines stools for the presence of oval and parasites.

5. Assists in Rh factor determination, serological tests and in a variety of facteriological capabilities as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree with a recognized science emphasis from a recognized college or university.
Minimum Experience: An acceptable combination of education and appropriate experience, at the manager’s discretion.
Required Licenses/Certifications: Possession of a valid California license as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist/Scientist trainee.
