Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.
For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Department Description
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate scientific field and minimum 2 years recent (within the last 2 years) experience as a licensed CLS or Public Health Microbiologist with recent experience in clinical microbiology or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Possession of a California Clinical Laboratory License or a similar license of equal or higher level issued by the State Department of Health.
- Able to work independently, under pressure; recognize and resolve problems while maintaining a high level of organization.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills relative to clinical results.
- Extensive knowledge of bacteriology and culture work up practices in a clinical microbiology laboratory.
- Experience with a Clinical Laboratory computer system.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficient in a database program such as Microsoft Access.
License/Certification
- Possession of a California Clinical Laboratory License or a similar license of equal or higher level issued by the State Department of Health.
