GW Hospital is a 385-bed tertiary care, academic medical center located in downtown Washington, DC. Featuring a Level 1 Trauma Center and a Level 3 NICU offers clinical expertise in a variety of areas including cardiac, cancer, neurosciences, women’s health, and advanced surgery including robotic and minimally invasive surgery. (UHS), a King of Prussia, PA-based company that is one of the nation's largest healthcare management companies.  Primary care and specialty outpatient care are available through the Medical Faculty Associates, a multi-specialty physician practice group of more than 750 physicians covering 51 specialty and subspecialty areas. The Medical Faculty Associates' doctors have offices in the Ambulatory Care Center, an outpatient clinic building located one block from the hospital.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

 

Responsible for reviewing medical records, both concurrently and retrospectively, to facilitate the accurate representation of the severity of illness, intensity of care and risk of mortality by improving the quality of physician documentation. Facilitates clarification and specificity of CLINICAL DOCUMENTATION through appropriate interactions with physicians, advocating for appropriate reimbursement. Promotes relationships between the Medical Staff, HIM Coders and Nursing staff.

 

Flexible work Schedule 

 

Hybrid position 4 weeks remote with 1 week onsite. (Shift is subject to change) 

 

 


Qualifications

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

 

 

Education/Qualification

 

  • Registered Nurse with current D.C. license or BSN preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years recent clinical experience in an acute care setting (i.e. Critical Care, Medical/Surgical or Emergency Department nursing preferred)
  • Previous experience with coding classification systems and DRG guidelines preferred


Skills

 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Excellent critical thinking skills, problem solving and deductive reasoning required, must be detail oriente
  • Must be dependable and self-directed
  • Computer literacy essential
  • Working knowledge of Medicare reimbursement system and coding structures, preferred, not required
  • History of positive nurse-physician relationships and ability to maintain and improve going forward
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to adapt to multiple and changing priorities
