Job Overview:

The Clinical Application Specialist serves as an expert in the practical use OCULUS products for the US and Canadian markets. Their primary responsibility is to educate and train medical eye care professionals in the operation and utilization of OCULUS Medical Devices and software in clinical practice. The specialist will work directly with ophthalmologists, optometrists, clinical staff, and OCULUS employees in a responsive and professional manner. The Clinical Application Specialist delivers training and support both remotely and/ on-site. The position requires an individual to develop the ability to install devices, capture patient data and interpret patient reports so they can understand and convey specialized product knowledge to OCULUS customers and internal employees.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties (other duties may be assigned):

  • Responsible for learning and maintaining a high level of product knowledge for multiple OCULUS devices.
  • Provide customers with comprehensive clinical education and training utilizing OCULUS devices to diagnose pathology and formulate treatment plans for various ocular conditions.
  • Organize, plan, and conduct clinical education and product training by answering questions, hosting webinars and visiting clinical practices on-site.
  • Lead projects related to OCULUS products and their Clinical Application in the field.
  • Develop customized content for training customers, key accounts, sales representatives and other staff.
  • Understand product hardware, software, how to install instruments, and attach peripheral devices.
  • Provide exceptional support when answering technical and clinic questions from customers and sales representatives with product related inquires, concerns, and complex issues.
  • Work with research and clinical trial sites to advise how to collect data for specific research projects.
  • Assist the marketing team with reviewing technical information on marketing materials as well as supporting the launch of new products and product enhancements.
  • Attend tradeshows and educational events to perform product presentations and demonstrations.
  • Gather product feedback, market data, and competitive product information to create reports for Product Management, Sales, and Development teams.
  • Develop a basic understanding of anatomy and physiology, conditions, pathologies and treatments managed by eye care providers, as well as a detailed knowledge of those directly related to ocular surgery, contact lens fitting, and OCULUS diagnostic devices.
  • Participate in continuous learning to maintain current knowledge of the market, competitors and innovations in the field of eye care.

Qualifications:

  • Two years working experience, preferably in a medical, scientific or technology field is preferred.
  • Four-year college degree in biology, medical, technical, scientific or related fields, or equivalent clinical experience is preferred.
  • Experience in the Eye Care industry, training in an optometry/ophthalmology program, or a recognized industry certification such as COA/COT/COMT/CPO/CPOA/CPOT/NCLE is desirable.
  • Prior experience with training or teaching, strong written communication, and verbal presentation skills are highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated skills using software applications such as: spreadsheets, word processing, internet research, creating presentations, video editing or other applicable functions. Office 365 knowledge (Email, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is desirable.
  • Good analytical skills, high level of professionalism and the ability to work cross-functionally within teams.
  • Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills are a must.
  • Must be self-motivated, self-directing, have strong attention to detail and excellent time management skills.
  • Able to maintain confidential Company-related information.
  • Have a positive attitude, be highly coachable, and love to learn.


Physical demands and work environment:

  • OCULUS provides a smoke and vape-free environment on company premises for its employees, customers, and visitors.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk and listen to customers or colleagues, lifting and moving objects up to 50 lbs., and working with and installing equipment that require good vision and a steady hand.
  • Ability to travel about 10-25% of time to tradeshows, clinical rotations and practice visits including weekends.
  • Safely operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid motor vehicle license.
  • Ability to travel internationally; obtaining valid passport will be required.
