Area Sales Manager

Capture the spotlight and elevate your career as our Area Sales Manager, US East Coast. We’re seeking a self-motivated and driven professional with a hunter mentality who successfully balances assertiveness, necessary to win new business, with the polished business acumen required to establish themselves as a trusted advisor at all corporate levels.
This dynamic contributor will manage existing distributors, partner with dealer reps, and drive growth by acquiring new distributors. As you support a diverse customer base, including OEMs and large end users, you’ll leverage traditional and contemporary prospecting methods and win new business by successfully applying solution-based selling Best Practices.
Aligning with our WELCH Vacuum Pumps division, the Area Sales Manager will promote and sell vacuum pumps of various technologies as process pumps and OEM components to distributors, manufacturers, system integrators, and end users across diverse segments (including, Laboratory, Life Sciences, Medical, Environmental, Chemical/Petrochemical, and General Manufacturing).
This role requires up to 75% travel and the ideal candidate will reside near a major airport in the sales territory of Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts —or may reside in a major city in the eastern US.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Sales: Achieve sales goals through market penetration and by partnering with internal teams (Product Management, Inside Sales, Application Engineering, etc.) to secure new business and grow existing accounts. Actively pursue distribution, resellers and OEM/system integrator prospects and leads in the development of new business opportunities. Responsible for major pricing negotiations, technical specifications, and toll-gate sales process. Develop opportunities to promote Welch to new customers in order to meet strategic growth objectives. Maintain updated forecasts and internal CRM reporting. Must be able to interface with various customer departments on a technical level, including Engineering, Purchasing, Quality, and top management. Must be skilled at working closely with customers in their labs and guide pump specification and selection process favorably.
  

• Product Knowledge: Possess and/or acquire WELCH VACUUM PUMP and pump technology knowledge. Ability to use their technical sales experience to develop new and existing business by providing expert advice to customers.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) in Life Sciences, Chemistry, or Engineering.

• Minimum 3 years of customer-facing sales experience, preferably traveling extensively in the assigned territory.

• Selling experience or application knowledge of WELCH Vacuum pumps.

• Experience in the Laboratory and Life Sciences, and Analytical markets is required.

• Previous experience inclusive of prospecting, securing, and managing large customer accounts.

• Must demonstrate high energy level and commitment to setting and achieving goals.

• Must be creative and able to resolve open issues and technical problems, while building strong working relationships with customers and company inside support personnel.

• Must demonstrate ability to manage selling strategies and possess personal effectiveness in account management and new business development.

• Travel, consisting of up to 50-75%, is required to fully support the specific region.
