Location: Sutton, MA Required Travel: 0-5%
Required Education: BS/BA in related discipline or Civil/Structural Engineering, or advanced degree, where required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Position Overview:
Civil/Structural Engineer to perform the civil/structural design of foundation and steel structures supporting the equipment used in ferrous and non-ferrous rolling mills. Work will be directly for the Plant Engineering group manager and will interface with various fluids, electrical, and mechanical engineers through the entire PT engineering organization to complete work from the PTUS Sutton, MA office.
Duties in general to include:
- Creates the plant level layouts, foundation bolt plan drawings, and civil structure design sections throughout the processing line to allow the complete detailed engineering from the overall plant builder/contactor.
- Performs calculations of live and dead loads on concrete and steel structures related to various mechanical machines, electrical motors, and systems.
- Performs civil/structural design and analysis (using metric units) for concrete and steel structures supporting the equipment.
- Work with installation services department to understand project installation requirements.
- Work within the scheduled timeframe for each project while maintaining progress on multiple projects simultaneously.
Required Skills/Knowledge, Education and Experience:
- 7-10 years’ experience in civil/structural design (industrial background preferred, but not required).
- Proficient in AutoCAD 2D, currently AutoCAD Mechanical 2019.
- Proficient in SolidWorks 3D, currently SolidWorks 2019.
- Working knowledge of STAAD Pro a plus.
- Possess an understanding of engineering site plans, steel mills, and plant layouts.
- Possess an understanding of civil/structural engineering requirements for installation of equipment at customer sites.
- Possess basic knowledge of fluid engineering as it relates to open channel flow and be able to size pipelines and open channels to handle mill contact water.
- Works with little supervision, self-motivated, accurate, and able to maintain tight schedules.
- Must communicate well with others.
Must be able to travel domestically and internationally to site to:
- obtain “as-built” information on retrofit projects
- assist external design teams if required
