Job Description
Position Summary:
A Civil Engineer II plays an increasing role in creating, maintaining, and protecting the environment to make it habitable and conducive for economic and social activities. The duties of Civil Engineer IIs include designing, planning and supervising construction projects, including roads, bridges, building construction and railways. The Civil Engineer II typically works in an (company or client/project) office, creating plans and analyzing data required on the site, or in the field. They also measure potential financial, environmental, and socio-economic costs of projects and materials and perform a series of assessments to ensure projects are delivered on schedule within budget. Some important duties and responsibilities of a Civil Engineer II include:
Job Functions:
· Perform tasks requiring applications of standard Civil Engineering techniques and procedures.
· Use design software such as MicroStation and AutoCAD to accurately render and communicate designs.
· Determine construction costs, local and professional building regulations, environmental impacts and other factors that can affect project implementation.
· Identify potential risk factors that can affect project delivery.
· Collaborate with a multi-disciplined team of other professionals, such as Scientists, Landscape Architects, and Engineers, or clients, on roadway transportation and civil projects.
· Enforce engineering, local, and legal regulations like health and safety protocols on-site.
· Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements/Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or another related field.
· Completed and passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
· Desire to pursue a Professional Engineering (PE) license after ~4 years experience.
· Proficient in creating plan drawings with design software.
· Good understanding of the health and safety protocols of project sites and know how to navigate local building regulations.
· Desire to progress to Associate Civil Engineer and Project Civil Engineer levels and may develop to a Project Manager.
· Identify and mitigate risks and can deliver project tasks within budget and on time.
· 2 to 4 years experience in the Civil Engineering industry or with a state or local government entity.
Skills/Abilities:
· Problem-solving skills to find the right solutions to issues.
· Advanced working knowledge of design software, including AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation and hydrologic and hydraulic modeling.
· Experience in site layout, erosion control, utility design and environmental impact assessment.
· Developing proficiency in project management, cost control and problem solving.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Planning and organization skills.
· Working knowledge of relevant regulations and legislation.
