Job Description

ProSidian Seeks a Senior Associate Civil Engineer - FERMILAB (PFRAKP5) (CONUS - Batavia, IL, 60510 (Remote) | Senior Consultant - Time and Materials). Our Civil and Structural Engineers (Resident Engineers), planners, environmental specialists, inspectors, and support professionals are devoted to providing valuable professional services that enhance people's lives through sustainable infrastructure.

This service supports Energy, Resources, & Industrials Sector Sector Clients (For Present / Future Requirements) and ProSidian Team Members work as part of a Key Personnel Cadre (Labor Category ) to fulfill T&M - Time and Materials (T&M) requirements for a provide Senior Associate Civil Engineer - FERMILAB related services and support for The Fermi Research Alliance, LLC (FRA) Proton Improvement Plan II Project (PIP-II) at The Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab), located just outside Batavia, Illinois, near Chicago, IL.  Fermilab is a Department Of Energy (DOE) National Laboratory specializing in high-energy particle physics.  This facility is operated by The Fermi Research Alliance, LLC (FRA) Maintenance & Operation Contractor for Fermilab as a partnership of the University of Chicago and the Universities Research Association (URA).  This position will be based near Batavia, IL, and can reside in or office within 50 miles of Fermilab. 

Under general supervision and based on significant knowledge of the laboratory's procedures and the operations of the area to which assigned, provide specialized Senior Associate Civil Engineer - FERMILAB support and performs moderately complex duties, tasks, and assignments that are broad, non-routine, and diversified, exercising a moderate degree of independent decision-making and problem resolution.  The Civil Engineer will be required to undergo FRA specific General Employee Radiation Training and Safety Orientation prior to beginning work on the Fermilab site.

SENIOR ASSOCIATE CIVIL ENGINEER - FERMILAB TASKS

  • Lead in the response to construction subcontractor request for information (RFI).
  • Leadership assistance in estimating and negotiating changes to the construction subcontract work.
  • perform constructability assessments as appropriate at all phases of the project.
  • Lead Engineering Efforts and Participate in Conventional facilities project scheduling.
  • Lead Engineering Efforts and Participate in Construction facilities planning, including temporary power, water, borrow and spoil areas, and road improvements.
  • Lead Engineering Efforts and Participate in Construction Phase support, including change management, monitoring construction subcontractors' progress versus schedule.
  • Lead FERMILAB project managers and senior construction staff in overseeing construction activities across the 6,800 acre Fermilab site. 
  • Leads and/or participates in weekly construction progress meetings and ensures that goods and services meet specifications.
  • Monitors and enforces contractor compliance with their Environment Safety and Health (ES&H) Program, the ES&H requirements in the contract, and the hazard assessments for the scope of work.
  • Prepares cost estimates and reviews existing or initiates new construction and service contracts.
  • Provide documentation describing ongoing and completed work.
  • Review plans and specifications, and recommend revisions where appropriate
  • Serves as a liaison to various Laboratory groups affected by construction projects to ensure that they are informed of construction, operational schedules and/or conflicting schedules.

Qualifications

Senior Associate Civil Engineer - FERMILAB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Accuracy and attention to detail

  • Good verbal and written skills
  • Knowledge of basic Procurement Processes

  • Two (2) year degree in a construction related field or five (5) years of relevant experience
  • OSHA 1926 30-hour training - This training must be accomplished prior to being considered for assignment at Fermilab
  • Abides by and is responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position.
  • Must have completed OSHA Construction Safety 30 Hour or ability to complete within 30 days.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Engineering degree from an accredited university and a minimum of Seven (07) years construction observation and site experience in similar work.
  • Resident Engineer will have the following minimum qualifications:
  • Must be a licensed Professional Engineer in Illinois.
  • Knowledge of all construction disciplines, including; excavations, conventional construction, electrical, mechanical and building automation is desired.
  • Must be a State Of Illinois Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and/or Licensed Structural Engineer (SE) -  Illinois utilizes the NCEES The Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) exam for licensure as a PE and the NCEES 16-hour PE Structural Exam for licensure as a Structural Engineer (SE)

Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory is undertaking an upgrade to the existing accelerator complex called PIP-II which is a high-intensity proton facility to support a world-leading neutrino program over the next two decades at Fermilab. PIP-II is an integral part of the U.S. Intensity Frontier Roadmap as described in the Particle Physics Project Prioritization Panel report of May 2014, with an intermediate-term goal focused on upgrades to the Fermilab accelerator complex capable of providing a beam power in excess of 1 MW on target at the initiation of LBNF operations. In a broader sense, PIP-II is a part of a longer-term concept for a sustained campaign of upgrades and improvements to achieve multi-MW proton beam capabilities at Fermilab.

The Senior Associate Resident Engineer will be required to undergo client specific General Employee Radiation Training and Safety Orientation prior to beginning work on the Fermilab site.   Due to the nature of the government contract requirements and/or clearances requirements, US citizenship is required.
