SalaryMountain Xpress is seeking an experienced government reporter to join our team. Are you passionate about covering local city government meetings and city-led initiatives? Do you enjoy crafting stories that convey important, timely information and empower readers to take part in meaningful civic dialogue? Are you a community-minded writer familiar with Asheville and the greater Western North Carolina region?
Qualified applicants will have 2-3 years experience in news-writing, have social-media skills, write efficiently and enjoy a fast-paced news-gathering environment. Must have knowledge of Asheville and WNC, be community-minded, have a keen sense of fairness with respect for differing points of view and be committed to Xpress’ mission of community-based journalism. Flexible availability required to cover some after-hours meetings and weekend events.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.50 - $20.00 per hour
