REPORTS TO:Assistant Head of Circulation
WORK SCHEDULE: Days, evenings, and weekends as assigned.
POSITION SUMMARY: Non-exempt
Under the direction of the Assistant Head of Circulation, prepare materials for shelving, shelve materials, shift and/or move parts of the collection, assist patrons, and complete support tasks as required to deliver outstanding circulation services and concierge level customer service. Further the Lake Forest Library's mission to inspire lifelong learning, promote the free and respectful exchange of ideas, and build community.
Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:
Collection Management Services
- Provide friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable customer service
- Accurately prepare/sort and shelve library materials
- Read shelves and re-shelve misfiled items
- Shift and/or move collections to accommodate new or returned materials
- Complete light housekeeping of bookshelves and materials
- Remove any damaged materials from shelves
- Locate and pull materials as requested
Circulation and Patron Assistance
- Respond to general patron queries and requests and direct them to the correct resource or library staff member
- Basic use of library circulation software
Support Services and Other Duties as Assigned
- Complete office and support tasks as requested
- Serve as the face of the library in the stacks
- Serve on library committees as requested
- Attend library meetings, continuing education, and training sessions as requested

- High degree of organizational skills with careful attention to detail
- Pleasant and professional personality; excellent customer service skills
- Good verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as a team member
- Commitment to a flexible work schedule, including days, evenings, and weekends
- Ability to understand oral and written directions in English and communicate effectively
Education and Other Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Ability to obtain a work permit if required
- Demonstrated ability to file, or to learn to file, sequentially
- Basic technology skills including learning to use phone system, and basic MS Office and library software
Physical Requirements
- Move, lift, carry, and put away items, weighing up to 20 pounds, sometimes repetitively
- Perform physical activities that require strength and coordination, such as pushing a loaded library cart
- Remain in a standing or bending position for extended periods of time
- Ability to work in an inside environment that provides protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from indoor temperature and humidity changes

Pay: $14.70 - $18.00 per hour
