Job description

Insight HRM is conducting a confidential search for a Childcare Director & Lead Preschool Teacher who is an experienced early childhood educator with strong organizational, management and leadership skills who is passionate about the philosophy of learning through play for young children.
This is a full-time position, Monday - Friday 7:30 am - approximately 4 pm with a salary range of $40,000- $45,000/year. Additional perks are a retirement plan with 3% match, short term disability and life insurance and a health insurance stipend.
Job Summary:
The Childcare Director & Lead Teacher is responsible for managing the Childcare center and serving as the Lead Teacher for a small, One Classroom preschool. The Childcare Director & Lead Teacher manages the childcare center staff, plans, prepares and implements daily activities, monitors children's progress, ensures compliance with Michigan childcare licensing rules and promotes the Academy's philosophy and educational objectives.
Essential Functions/Job Responsibilities:
Childcare Center Director:

  1. Assumes overall responsibility for operation of One early childhood classroom, as appointed, with the primary responsibility of the safety and well-being of the children.
  2. Assists in the design and implementation of education programs, including in-service staff training programs.
  3. Assists in planning and attending special programs and activities related to the center.
  4. Attends and engages in staff and parent meetings
  5. Attends and engages in ongoing professional development to improve personal and professional skills.
  6. Keeps current with all required credentials and degrees in accordance with all accrediting and regulatory bodies.
  7. Management & Supervision of Childcare Center Staff:
    • Schedules, monitors and supervises daily activities of assigned support staff.
    • Responsible for performance management, development, coaching and annual evaluation of childcare staff.
    • Conducts regular team meetings with support staff.
    • Ensures staff adhere to Company policies & procedures.
  8. Maintains child-staff and group size ratios at all times.
  9. Collaborates with Company leadership to ensure Childcare Center initiatives are in alignment with and supportive of overall Company strategic direction.
  10. Ensures Childcare Center related policies and procedures are compliant and kept up to date and communicates them with Childcare Center staff.
  11. Manages concerns, complaints and feedback from parents.

Lead Teacher:
  1. Prepares and maintains an inviting, creative, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment
  2. Designs appropriate room arrangement to support goals of the program.
  3. Maintains classroom inventory and assists in the purchase of supplies in accordance with classroom budget for program curriculum
  4. Provides a developmentally appropriate and integrated curriculum that meets the needs of individual children.
  5. Create a monthly newsletter reflecting the planned curriculum and activities for each month throughout the year.
  6. Maintains and posts written curriculum plans in the classroom.
  7. Assists children with snacks and lunch, and educates children in the development of good nutrition habits and socialization skills during mealtimes.
  8. Assists children in establishing good habits of toileting and personal hygiene.
  9. Assesses children's needs and developmental progress on an on-going basis including an annual evaluation of each student.
  10. Conduct parent teacher conferences to relay information gathered during student evaluations.
  11. Meets with individual parents as required on matters involving child or facility policies.

  4. Other duties as assigned by Management.

Education/Certification/Licensing/Experience Requirements:
  1. Education: Bachelor's Degree in early childhood education or related field preferred with 18 credits in early childhood education and 4 credits in childcare administration; or
    1. Associates Degree* in early childhood education required; with 4 credits in childcare administration.
  2. Experience: 2 years' teaching experience in child care or early education capacity (Bachelor's Degree); or 4 years' teaching experience in child care or early education capacity (*Associate's Degree).
  3. Certificates & Licenses: Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) required.
  4. Other Requirements: Strong stakeholder service skills. Exceptional dedication to dependability and punctuality. Strong work ethic. Ability to engage a team toward a common mission. Additional experience and skills requirements include:

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
  1. Posture & Physical: Primarily standing and moving about, in a preschool classroom environment. Must be able to bend, stoop, reach, sit on the floor and rise from the floor without adult assistance. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  2. High stress: High stress environment due to working with multiple students, staff and parents, potentially managing concerns or complaints, and/or incident response.
  3. Discretion: Works independently, and collaboratively and supervises the work of others.
  4. Technology: Utilizes computers, phones and standard office equipment.
  5. Safety: Employee is required to perform job duties in accordance with existing health and safety procedures and policies.
  6. Travel: Ability to travel locally and regionally to attend meetings, conferences, etc. as required.
