Child Support Assistants process Child Support cases and provide assistance in locating parents and conducting in-person interviews to elicit financial information. Child Support Assistants generate, complete and process legal forms and correspondence, verify requests, answer questions, and a complete a variety of technical tasks in support of obtaining and enforcing Child Support orders.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required. At the time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance may be required and must be maintained throughout the duration of employment for the individual providing the transportation.
Background: Applicants must pass a background investigation, including DOJ/FBI clearance, credit check, physical examination and drug test prior to appointment.
Work Assignment: Applicants must be willing to accept assignment, as needed, to any of the DCSS offices, which are located in Loma Linda, Victorville, and Ontario. Newly hired Child Support Assistants will be assigned to an office as business needs dictate; however, geographic preference will be taken into consideration whenever possible. Training will be conducted at the Loma Linda branch office. Candidates must be able to start their employment at this location and indicate a willingness to work in Loma Linda in the supplemental questions.

Applicants must meet one of the following options:
OPTION 1 EDUCATION: Thirty (30) semester or forty-five (45) quarter units of completed college coursework from an accredited college or university in Public/Business Administration, Administration of Justice, Social/Behavioral Science, English, Math, Humanities or closely related field. Transcripts MUST be submitted with the application if the applicant does not possess a completed Associate's degree (or higher) in one of the qualifying fields of study.
OPTION 2 EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of full-time equivalent office clerical experience overseen by a
State Child Support Services Department.
OPTION 3 EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of full-time equivalent office clerical experience which involved interviewing customers to obtain pertinent financial, legal, or personal history information. This experience must be clearly described in the work experience section of your application.(Conducting job interviews is not qualifying.)
OPTION 4 CERTIFICATION: Successful completion of the Entry Level Workplace Certification issued by San Bernardino County. This certification must be attached to your application.
Examination: Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to take the online assessment. The assessment will consist of an evaluation of skills and knowledge in the following areas:
- Math Skills
- Interviewing
- Public Contact and Interpersonal Skills
- Interpreting Rules and Regulations
- Listening Skills
