The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
 

Position Summary

The Chief Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for the oversight and direction of clinical and Nursing services operations for the advanced heart failure, ventricular assist device (VAD), and cardiac transplant programs. The Chief Transplant Officer functions as the Nurse Executive for the programs and works collaboratively with Medical and Surgical Directorship as well as multiple stakeholders including but not limited to hospital Nursing and operational leadership, to develop and maintain guidelines, policies, and protocols in facilitating optimal patient care and programmatic operations. This includes working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary care team consisting of and not limited to, Cardiac Surgeons, Cardiologists, Nurse Practitioners, Transplant Coordinators, VAD and Transplant quality/regulatory teams, and cardiac medical and surgical research teams.


Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise advanced heart failure, ventricular assist device, and cardiac transplant Nursing team clinicians.
  • Oversee and evaluate Nursing team clinicians' assessment and management of advanced heart failure patients including those with ventricular assist devices and/or those post-heart transplant. Oversight and evaluation includes diagnostic and therapeutic interventions for ongoing inpatient and outpatient care management according to collaborative agreement.
  • Direct coordinated patient care activities, based on established priorities, including teaching, counseling, and discharge planning, and direct/delegate appropriately to members of the health care team.
  • Design, support, and maintain a safe, therapeutic, and patient-oriented environment, which is also conducive to learning for students.
  • Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for Nursing practice and the delivery of safe, competent patient care.
  • Establish and supervise Nursing clinician scheduling activities for the support of a safe patient care environment
  • Oversee and evaluate employee performance as necessary to maintain efficient functioning of clinical services.
  • Conduct performance appraisals and prepare annual goals and objectives for areas of responsibility involving subordinates.
  • Recruit and participate in onboarding process for Nursing team clinicians.
  • Oversee and direct orientation for Nursing team clinicians.
  • Facilitate ongoing education to meet needs of Nursing team clinicians including but not limited to clinical, research, and administrative topics which directly affect patient care.
  • Collaboratively develop, implement, and evaluate standards of care and professional practice in collaboration with members of the health care team and in accordance with institutional policies and regulatory agency requirements.
  • Collaboratively oversee and direct clinical operations of the advanced heart failure, ventricular assist device, and cardiac transplant programs.
  • Participate as member of the operations team in making cross-functional operational decisions.
  • Participate in the design, measurement, and assessment of care related structures, processes, and outcomes to improve the quality and efficiency of patient care.
  • Conduct studies of operating issues, automation systems, procedures, work assignments, and forms, and recommend changes to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of programmatic operations.
  • Work collaboratively with quality and regulatory teams to meet Joint Commission (JC), United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) standards and measures for maintenance of VAD and transplant programs certification and accreditation.
  • Identify areas for improvement, develop projects, and implement processes within the clinical programs (advanced heart failure, ventricular assist device, and transplant).
  • Attend weekly multidisciplinary care team meetings including but not limited to ventricular assist device and transplant selection meetings.
  • Collaborate with the ventricular assist device team leadership of the Weill-Cornell New York Presbyterian campus to standardize and improve bi-campus protocols and workflow.
  • Participate in continuing education programs.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with patients, caregivers, and members of the health care team.
  • Support other functions as assigned.
  • Budgetary responsibility. Has signatory authority for expenditures.
  • Supervises two or more employees.
  • Responsible for EE Evaluations and Performance Programs.
  • Involved with EE Disciplinary or Labor Relations Activities.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Nursing as a Nurse Practitioner trained in the care of adults, plus five years minimum related experience in a hospital setting, preferably Cardiology
  • Current New York State Registered Professional Nurse and Nurse Practitioner licenses
  • NP Board certification
  • Current ACLS, BLS, DEA, NPI certifications
  • Familiarity and proficiency with computer-based programs such as electronic medical record systems and Microsoft Office
