Chief Merchandising Officer (CMO) Chief Operating Officer (COO)

COMPENSATION: $175,000 to $250,000 per year DOE plus up to $200,000 annual bonus.

Rosauers Supermarkets Inc. is a successful grocery retail chain with 23 stores across Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Oregon. We take pride in providing high-quality foods and exceptional customer service. We are looking for a dynamic and experienced CMO/ COO to lead our merchandising, marketing, and operations efforts.

JOB DESCRIPTION

This position plays a pivotal role in shaping the product assortment, pricing, merchandising, overall customer experience, and operational excellence across our company. This person reports directly to the CEO and collaborates closely with other members of the executive team. The CMO/ COO possesses a combination of strategic thinking, leadership abilities, marketing expertise, ethical values, and a deep understanding of the industry and target audience to drive business growth and obtain company objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership:

• Collaborate with the CEO and senior executives to develop and execute the company’s strategic vision and objectives. Provide guidance on expansion, store updates, market positioning, and long-term growth strategies.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, human resources, marketing, and finance, to align strategies and achieve business objectives.
• Assist in budgeting and forecasting annual plans to include sales, profit, margins, expenses, etc.

Store Operations:

• Supervise and support our district managers to optimize the day-to-day operations of all 23 grocery stores.
• Manage various contracts for service providers.
• Compliance and regulatory management.

Merchandising:

• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of merchandising professionals, fostering a culture of excellence and to drive sales and profits through assortment, pricing, promotion, and placement.
• Develop and execute a comprehensive merchandising strategy that aligns with the company’s overall goals and customer preferences.
• Solid understanding of loyalty programs, digital marketing channels, tools, and analytics with ability to leverage to drive results.
• Assist department directors with managing vendor relationships.
• Stay abreast of latest trends, technologies, and consumer behaviors.
• Push for innovation, willing to embrace new approaches, and adapt strategies to stay ahead of rapidly evolving marketplace.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, and SKILLS

• Proven experience in a senior merchandising role within the grocery retail industry, ideally in a multi-store or chain setting.
• Prior experience managing operations in a multi-store retail chain.
• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Exceptional negotiation and vendor relationship management capabilities.
• Strong financial acumen.
• Proficiency in data analysis and market research to inform decision-making.
• Knowledge of industry regulations, food safety, and quality standards.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills.
• A bachelor’s or master’s degree in marketing, business administration or related field or equivalent experience is a plus.
