Job Summary
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will operate as a trusted financial advisor and strategic partner to AMERIND’s leadership team and board of directors by effective leading enterprise-wide processes for financial planning, forecasting, budgeting, and analysis. This position will work across the organization with functional leaders to support the development, implementation and monitoring of short-term and long-term financial strategies, ensuring the company’s growth, performance and continued success. Provides leadership and coordination in the finance, accounting, IT and budgeting for AMERIND. Ensures that all accounting and financial operations are executed in accordance with the system of internal controls, and all applicable tribal, state, and federal regulations are in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Governmental Accounting Standards, and Statutory Accounting Principles.

Job Responsibilities
  • Directs the preparation of all financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, tax status, and annual budgeting.
  • Oversees financial and accounting system controls and standards and ensures timely financial and statistical reports; advises the CEO, COO and Board of Directors with respect to financial reporting, planning, practices, financial stability and liquidity and financial growth. .
  • Oversees the overall financial results of AMERIND including strategic planning, operations, investment portfolios and cash management.
  • Works with CEO and executives to coordinate planning and establish priorities for the planning process.
  • Identifies opportunities for expansion into new product areas.
  • Produces timely and consistent monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports on both SAP, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles including consolidating audits and coordinating annual audits.
  • Develops financial and tax strategies as well as performance measures that are consistent with AMERIND's strategic goals and financial objectives.
  • Oversees investment of funds and works with investment bankers to raise additional capital required for growth.
  • Maintains relationships with financial institutions, auditors, and the investment community.
  • Establishes major economic objectives and policies; directs the preparation of reports that detail financial position in the areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present and future operations.
  • Ensures effective internal controls, optimum efficiencies, improvement of processes, and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Prepares and reviews proformas and budgets of new and existing operations; recommends annual budget for Board approval; achieves the financial objectives of the organization by exercising control and implementation over the budgetary processes of all departments and capital budgets.
  • Reviews activity reports and financial statements to determine progress and status in attaining objectives; revises objectives and plans in accordance with current conditions.
  • Acts as the 401(k) administrator.
  • Assists operational management and prepares financial reports and analysis.
  • Oversees the Finance Director, IT Manager, and HR; increases management's effectiveness by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, coaching, counseling, and performance improvement management; communicating values, strategies, and objectives; assigning accountabilities; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; developing a climate for offering information and opinions; integrating functional objectives; providing and participating in educational opportunities.
  • Contributes to the organization’s effectiveness by offering information and opinions as a member of the executive management team; integrating objectives with other functions; accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Hosts staff meetings to ensure accurate and effective communication.
  • Stays abreast of new technologies and principles by conducting research; attending seminars, educational workshops, classes, and conferences; reviewing professional publications; establishing networks; participating in professional societies; and conferring with representatives of contracting agencies and related organizations.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of all privileged information.
  • Participates in cross-functional team process improvement projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervision of Others
Directly supervises a team of exempt and non-exempt personnel.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Business Administration with specialization in in Accounting or Finance required; Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of seven years of experience in financial management required.
  • Five years management experience.
  • Human Resources and Information Technology experience preferred.
  • CPA or CMA preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and insurable
  • No felony, theft or fraud convictions.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background investigation.
Additional Eligibility Requirements
  • New employees must complete the Associate in Insurance (AINS) designation within six months from the end of the 90-day evaluation period to be eligible for advancement and incentive compensation.
  • For continued employment, employees must complete an elective course and six hours of professional development within 12 months after the end of the 90-day evaluation period.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Knowledge of the functions and structure of AMERIND.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of management and fund accounting, finance, insurance and business administration.
  • Knowledge of the standards, policies, practices, and procedures of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Governmental Accounting Standards.
  • Knowledge of Information Technology infrastructure needs, policies and practices.
  • Knowledge of the development, preparation, and control of budgets.
  • Knowledge of managerial and statistical analysis techniques and reporting procedures.
  • Ability to utilize an automated accounting system.
  • Ability to understand and interpret vendor invoices, statements, and other requests for payment.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions.
  • Ability to make solid decisions and exercise independent judgment.
  • Ability to be persuasive and tactful in controversial situations.
  • Ability to maintain accuracy of work and pay attention to detail.
  • Ability to interpret applicable federal, state, county, and local laws, regulations, and requirements.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds, employees and officials.
  • Skill in using computerized accounting software programs, office equipment including 10-key adding machine, and word-processing and spreadsheet programs.
  • Skill in analyzing problems, projecting consequences, identifying solutions, and implementing recommendations.
  • Skill in supervising, training, and evaluating assigned staff.
  • Skill in budget preparation and administration.
  • Skill in preparing, reviewing, and analyzing operational and financial reports.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands
  • 40% - 50% travel required; COVID 19 vaccination is preferred.
  • Typical business office setting with moderate noise level.
  • Non-office environment may be encountered for offsite presentations and support of company activities.
  • Must be able to sit for work at a computer for more than 6 hours per day.
  • Must be able to use hands for dexterity of motion and reach with hands and arms. Extensive use of computer keyboards.
  • Occasionally required to stand and walk.
  • Frequently required to talk and listen.
  • Must have ability to occasionally lift 20+ lbs.
Physical Exam
Employee is required to successfully pass an annual physical exam to certify that the incumbent is capable of performing the physical demands of the job as described above.
