Background: The Culinary Academy Las Vegas (CALV) is the country's leading nonprofit culinary and hospitality training institute.

CALV's mission is to train people for successful hospitality careers in Las Vegas. CALV's vision is to reduce poverty and eliminate unemployment by providing employability and vocational skills to eligible participants. This position will be the first in command and will supervise and control all strategic and business aspects of the Culinary Academy of Las Vegas.

The CEO will provide proper direction to subordinate staff as well as creating a vision for success, all under the direction of a joint partnership between the Culinary Union Local #226, Bartenders Local #165 and major Las Vegas resort/gaming properties. The Culinary Academy of Las Vegas is governed by the provisions under the Taft-Hartley Act of 1947, that establishes the legal structure through which a collectively bargained benefit plan must be administered. The Act provides that the Trust must be governed by a Board of Trustees with an equal number of Union and Employer Trustees.

Currently there are eight (8) Trustees on the Board with four appointed by the Union and four appointed by participating Gaming/Hospitality Companies. These same Trustees are charged with hiring the CEO and ensuring proper management of the Training Academy on behalf of the members of the Union. To thrive as the CEO, will employ a "servant leader" management style, be a prudent manager of resources, and most importantly an inspiring change agent type of leader.

The CEO must be able to see the "big picture" in a variety of settings while ensuring daily organizational details are being constantly executed upon. Key components for the right CEO include being approachable, driven to organizational success, hands on when needed, and a keen steward of financial and people resources. The Culinary Academy of Las Vegas has human resources consisting of 90 full-time and approximately 85 on call employees.

The 2023 operating budget totals $11.7 million with an additional $25 million dollar State grant fund in 2024. The CEO currently has a span of control of 11 Senior Executives.
