Summary:
Since developing one of the nation's first kidney transplant programs in 1966, the Penn Transplant Institute remains at the forefront of the discipline, providing the latest technology and discoveries in transplantation. With active programs in heart, lung, liver, kidney, pancreas, islet, uterus, and hand transplantation, along with partner programs at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), the Penn Transplant Institute is the largest multi-organ transplant program in the region, a national leader in the field and a signature program for our health system.
The Chief Administrative Officer of the Penn Transplant Institute (PTI) working in conjunction with the Vice Chair/Vice President of Transplant Services, will have overall administrative responsibility for the strategic program growth, operational oversight, and financial planning for the PTI. The CAO will work with internal (e. g. academic and hospital departments and divisions, service lines) as well as external (Payers, regulatory organizations, the United Organ Sharing Network (UNOS), and others) stakeholders to enhance access, optimize growth, drive quality, and enhance innovation within the PTI. The CAO will work collaboratively to ensure proper resources and staff are assigned to PTI, based on need but with the intent to maximize resource utilization and optimum quality and efficiency developing appropriate reporting lines and accountability.
Responsibilities:

  • Insures PTI prioritizes and optimizes quality and safety and maintains compliance with appropriate regulations and accreditations.
  • Responsible for new process implementation.
  • Evaluates external programs and proposes implementing policies and procedures which will enhance the efficiency of the Program.
  • Ensure that the Program develops and maintains compliance with appropriate operating procedures.
  • Works with Division, Hospital, Cancer Center, and Health System administration to manage budgets for the Program.
  • Leads program and budgetary planning and is responsible for ensuring that strategic goals of the PTI are met.
  • Works with HUP CEO and HUP leadership, department faculty, clinical leadership, affiliates and suppliers in developing programs, services and initiatives to anticipate future customer needs, build customer loyalty and generate profitable growth.
  • Works with stakeholders to support program development and growth. Drives operational integration of programs by ensuring alignment of communication to UPHS Leadership.
  • Design, develop and implement clinical programs a part of comprehensive delivery system that is consistent with and meets departmental and institutional goals.
  • Work with PTI Medical Directors to evaluate current programs and assess needs to implement new programs. Develop business plans for new programs. Implement net positive contribution for department, entity and UPHS.

Education or Equivalent Experience:
  • Master's degree in healthcare administration or business administration with 7 + years of health care administrative leadership role
  • 5+ years of transplant leadership preferred.
