Job Purpose:
• The primary purpose of this position is to advance Quantum's pressure vessel
technologies by exploring new liner materials, developing new resin systems for
wet winding and towpreg, and applying resin onto dry fiber for towpreg.
• The secondary purpose is to improve the current material formulations and
processes used in pressure vessel and systems manufacturing.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Develop advanced resin systems with nanoparticles for wet winding and towpreg.
• Apply resin systems onto dry fiber for towpreg.
• Investigate new pressure vessel liner materials.
• Develop new methods to bond plastic to metal.
• Provide recommendations on material selections and methods to process.
• Support Engineering to validate new designs that are materials related.
• Support Manufacturing to validate new processes that are materials related.
• Support Operations to investigate production issues related to materials.
• Support Service to investigate field issues related to materials.
• Support materials lot acceptance testing.
• Visit vendors occasionally.
• Ability to apply a systematic and logical approach to the engineering process.
• Ability to interface with customers, engineers, and manufacturing personnel.
• Good verbal communication and documentation skills.
• Adopt and implement the Quality Assurance Procedures-QAP and Departmental
Work Instructions-DWI, identified in QEMS Employee Training Matrix.
Requirements
Education and/or Experience:
Required: Bachelor of Science Degree in Materials or Chemical Engineering + 5 years industrial/commercial experience4 years minimum of industrial experience in a production assembly/test environment.
Preferred: Master's degree or PhD
Physical Job Requirements:
This is a mixture of sedentary office and hands-on lab work position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use their hands and fingers to operate a 2 computer keyboard, mouse, and telephone keypad or to write, as well as talk and hear. They are also required to stand, walk, or sit, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or
crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus. This position involves occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds.
