This is an anticipated Certified School Nurse position for the 2024/2025 school year for Steckel Elementary School.
Position Summary:
The Certified School Nurse provides information and services to the school community in health related areas.
Qualifications:

1. Education: Bachelor's Degree required.
2. Certification:
   1. Active and valid School Nurse Certificate issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
   2. Valid First Aid Certification.
   3. Valid CPR Certification.
   4. Valid AED Certification.

1. License: Valid Registered Nurse License issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Experience:

1. As required, per job posting.
2. Experience working with students preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of current information and techniques needed to assess and treat human injuries and diseases.

1. Ability to understand and comply with confidentiality protocol.
2. Ability to build and maintain working relationships and positive rapport with students, staff, parents, and administrators as well as outside organizations.
3. Maintain current knowledge of applicable Individualized Education Plans as related to student health needs.
4. Ability to organize and plan effectively.
5. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
6. Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
7. Knowledge of current Commonwealth of Pennsylvania nursing standards.
8. Ability to effectively communicate with students, staff, parents, administrators, and community members.
9. Ability to attend work regularly at assigned work hours subject to lawful leave rights and responsibilities.
10. Ability to utilize current software/technology package and related equipment.
11. Ability and knowledge to use the internet as a research tool.
12. Ability to drive between work locations as required and directed by immediate supervisor.

Functions/Duties/Responsibilities:
Primary:

1. Respond effectively and appropriately to the health related needs of the school community.
2. Assess, document, and manage the health care needs of all students in grades Kindergarten-12.
3. Maintain, inspect, and inventory medical equipment and supplies.
4. Develop and maintain health related forms in accordance with law and/or district policy.
5. Maintain required accurate, detailed health reports and health records for all students and inform staff of relevant student health needs or conditions as appropriate.
6. Direct supplemental nursing or health care personnel.
7. Conduct and coordinate all student screenings and testing as mandated by the district and/or state.
8. Administer prescription or other medications in accordance with doctor's order or district protocols.
9. Annually review and seek revision of, as necessary, appropriate standing orders with assistance of school-designated physician.
10. Participate in professional development activities and opportunities.
11. Maintain confidentiality.
12. Plan, interpret and establish health care plans for students with special health care needs including but not limited to HIV/AIDS, diabetes, asthma, and allergies and evaluate outcomes of plans and revise as needed.
13. Visitation, screening, and support to private and non-public schools as required and assigned.
14. Identify and refer high risk children to needed services including children presenting signs of suspected abuse or neglect.
15. Participate in the Student Assistance Program providing interventions and support for students referred with substance abuse and mental health problems that interfere with their academic success.
16. Adhere to universal precautions.
17. Participate in and encourage the development and maintenance of educational programs which lead to healthy and safe school environments.
18. Demonstrate professional behavior and appearance while performing all functions, duties, and job responsibilities.
19. Adhere to all applicable Pennsylvania School Code and/or employer policies and procedures.
