This is an anticipated Certified School Nurse position for the 2024/2025 school year for Steckel Elementary School.
Position Summary:
The Certified School Nurse provides information and services to the school community in health related areas.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's Degree required.
- Certification:
- Active and valid School Nurse Certificate issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
- Valid First Aid Certification.
- Valid CPR Certification.
- Valid AED Certification.
- License: Valid Registered Nurse License issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Experience:
- As required, per job posting.
- Experience working with students preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of current information and techniques needed to assess and treat human injuries and diseases.
- Ability to understand and comply with confidentiality protocol.
- Ability to build and maintain working relationships and positive rapport with students, staff, parents, and administrators as well as outside organizations.
- Maintain current knowledge of applicable Individualized Education Plans as related to student health needs.
- Ability to organize and plan effectively.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
- Knowledge of current Commonwealth of Pennsylvania nursing standards.
- Ability to effectively communicate with students, staff, parents, administrators, and community members.
- Ability to attend work regularly at assigned work hours subject to lawful leave rights and responsibilities.
- Ability to utilize current software/technology package and related equipment.
- Ability and knowledge to use the internet as a research tool.
- Ability to drive between work locations as required and directed by immediate supervisor.
Functions/Duties/Responsibilities:
Primary:
- Respond effectively and appropriately to the health related needs of the school community.
- Assess, document, and manage the health care needs of all students in grades Kindergarten-12.
- Maintain, inspect, and inventory medical equipment and supplies.
- Develop and maintain health related forms in accordance with law and/or district policy.
- Maintain required accurate, detailed health reports and health records for all students and inform staff of relevant student health needs or conditions as appropriate.
- Direct supplemental nursing or health care personnel.
- Conduct and coordinate all student screenings and testing as mandated by the district and/or state.
- Administer prescription or other medications in accordance with doctor's order or district protocols.
- Annually review and seek revision of, as necessary, appropriate standing orders with assistance of school-designated physician.
- Participate in professional development activities and opportunities.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Plan, interpret and establish health care plans for students with special health care needs including but not limited to HIV/AIDS, diabetes, asthma, and allergies and evaluate outcomes of plans and revise as needed.
- Visitation, screening, and support to private and non-public schools as required and assigned.
- Identify and refer high risk children to needed services including children presenting signs of suspected abuse or neglect.
- Participate in the Student Assistance Program providing interventions and support for students referred with substance abuse and mental health problems that interfere with their academic success.
- Adhere to universal precautions.
- Participate in and encourage the development and maintenance of educational programs which lead to healthy and safe school environments.
- Demonstrate professional behavior and appearance while performing all functions, duties, and job responsibilities.
- Adhere to all applicable Pennsylvania School Code and/or employer policies and procedures.
