Position Summary
The Peer Specialist helps to engage Young Adults in their own recovery by sharing his/her own mental health history as well as any past involvement with child welfare or the justice system. By sharing his/her own recovery story, the Peer Specialist provides modeling of recovery, helps to engage the Young Adult in treatment services, and also helps to advocate from a recovery-oriented standpoint.

Essential Responsibilities
- Assist youth in articulating personal goals for recovery.
- Assist youth in determining their treatment goals/objectives.
- Teach and support acquisition and utilization of skills needed to facilitate individual recovery.
- Promote the knowledge of available service options and choices.
- Observe the progress youth make toward meeting objectives.
- Serve as a mentor/role model demonstrating competency in recovery, effective coping skills and self-help strategies.
- Develop and conduct Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP) individual and group education.
- Assist with teaching independent living skills such as accessing public transportation options, cooking, cleaning, etc. May instruct youth in group settings, individually or in their homes as appropriate
- Accompany and support youth enrolled in social/leisure, educational, occupational, and/or advocacy- based community integration activities.
- Document activities in electronic health record.
Qualifications
- Clearances. State Police; FBI clearance; child abuse clearance; CPSL Mandated Reporter-Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse training; any additional background checks/clearances required by state governing bodies.
- Valid driver's license and current vehicle insurance.
Working Conditions
- Physical Demands. Requires vision, speech, and hearing. Position allows employee to move about freely or sit at will when performing job duties.
- Environmental Factors. Office, home, community
- Working Hours. Non-traditional hours as determined by the program, including some evening hours and occasional weekends.
