Responsibilities:
Provides occupational therapy services to patients impaired by physical dysfunction, including assessment, treatment planning and implementation of the treatment plan based on the functional needs of the patient. Provides supervision for COTA and students.
Requirements:
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy Assisting from an accredited school required.
- 2+ years experience as a registered Occupational Therapist Assistant required.
Licensure/Certification
- Current unrestricted Occupational Therapist Assistant License from the State of Michigan required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Physical ability to bend, position and transfer patients and exert forces up to 70 lbs.
- Ability to react effectively to the needs of patients and families.
- Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to exercise professional judgment and initiative when analyzing problems and recommending solutions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conducts screenings and evaluations to determine the patient/resident’s functional impairments in activities of daily living.
- Develops and implements treatment plans to reach patients/resident’s highest potential for independence.
- Adheres to professional standards of practice.
- Provides direct patient/resident care to facilitate the restoration of functional abilities.
- Performs duties within the parameters of the State of Michigan Public Health Code.
- Provides documentation in a legible manner to maintain quality of the medical record as it relates to reimbursement guidelines, accuracy, and facility requirements.
- Participates in patient care conferences and program development as necessary.
- Promotes current standards of clinical practice through participation in continuing education and in-service programs.
- Provides in-services to other staff members on occupational therapy as it relates to patient/resident care.
- Ensures that the patient/resident has the appropriate equipment while in the facility and for discharge to home.
- Designs and fabricates splints and or slings per doctor’s order to meet the needs of the patient/resident.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
