Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Freelance Medical Coder with a specialization in laboratory codes to join our team. As a freelance Medical Coder, you will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate coding and billing for laboratory procedures, adhering to industry guidelines, and optimizing revenue cycle management. This position offers the flexibility of working remotely, providing you the opportunity to showcase your expertise in medical coding while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
Responsibilities:
- Assigning Accurate Codes:
- Reviewing and accurately assigning CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 codes to laboratory procedures, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and regulations.
- Analyzing medical documentation to extract relevant information for coding purposes.
- Specialization in Laboratory Codes:
- Demonstrating proficiency in assigning codes specific to laboratory tests, screenings, and other related procedures.
- Staying updated on changes and updates in laboratory coding guidelines and industry best practices.
- Quality Assurance:
- Conducting regular audits to ensure coding accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Collaborating with the quality assurance team to address and resolve coding discrepancies.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintaining detailed and organized records of assigned codes and supporting documentation.
- Generating reports on coding performance and contributing to performance improvement initiatives.
- Collaboration with Healthcare Professionals:
- Collaborating with healthcare providers, clinicians, and other relevant stakeholders to clarify documentation and ensure accurate code assignment.
- Continuing Education:
- Engaging in ongoing education and training to stay abreast of changes in medical coding guidelines, especially those related to laboratory codes.
- Adherence to Compliance Standards:
- Ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations, as well as other relevant healthcare compliance standards.
- Communication:
- Effectively communicating with internal teams and external clients regarding coding-related inquiries and clarifications.
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Medical Coder with a focus on laboratory codes.
- In-depth knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 coding systems.
- Strong understanding of laboratory procedures and terminology.
- Certification in medical coding (e.g., CPC, CCS) is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in using coding software and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Adherence to confidentiality and compliance standards.
Job Types: Part-time, Temporary
Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour
