GENERAL DUTIES

  • Works with the team to schedule patients and to accommodate emergency treatments. Responds to emergency calls in a timely manner to ensure treatment of hyperbaric emergencies.
  • Maintains a preventative maintenance schedule for the hyperbaric systems and ensures compliance with this schedule. Maintains and ensures appropriate entries, recording of all required logs and all patient and billing information recorded as necessary.
  • Processes hyperbaric equipment for cleaning, sterilizing and packaging, as required. Changes all oxygen, air, nitrogen and 60/40 nitrox bank tanks as needed and disposes of empty tanks in an appropriate manner.
  • Ensures department compliance with regulatory and safety policies/codes and all safety procedures while diving patients. Performs safety checks and conducts, supervises and evaluates drills as required by the institution and various regulatory bodies.
  • Evaluates chamber equipment/supplies for safe use inside hyperbaric chambers.
  • Conducts an annual review of safety related items in order to identify trends and monitor improvements.
  • Provides training to other Hyperbaric Technicians in chamber operations, log procedures, documentation requirements, maintenance and safety procedures.
  • Demonstrates and actively promotes compliance with all state, federal regulatory and accrediting agencies (i.e., patient safety, infection control, HIPAA, etc.).

EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
  • 1 year working with all applicable hyperbaric safety codes.
  • 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • 4 years of hyperbaric facility operation.

EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS
  • Required: NREMT, Paramedic, Respiratory Therapist, LPN, or RN.
  • Required: Diving background
    (Dive School, Commercial, Military)

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • Required: Certification by NBDHMT
  • Required: Current Louisiana licensure appropriate to specialty training
  • Required: BCLS
  • Required: ACLS

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to work independently, but know when to seek assistance/consultation.
  • Communication skills to forge relationships with patients, subordinates, peers and physicians.
  • Critical thinking skills.
  • Completion of a NBDHMT approved hyperbaric medicine course.
  • Must successfully complete a UHMS or NBDHMT approved Hyperbaric Safety Director course.
  • Pass an initial employment diving physical exam and qualification dives.
    If ordered by the Hyperbaric Medical Director, pass any additional diving physical exam.
    Submit an annual health review for approval by the Hyperbaric Medical Director.
    Female employees must notify the Hyperbaric Charge Nurse, the Hyperbaric Medical Director and the Administrative Director in case of pregnancy.
