Ag. Commodities Field Rep, Procurement – Ingredients: The individual will be responsible for monitoring and driving all potato field programs in the US and Canada. Providing a consistent and reliable supply to our Campbell facilities. Ensuring quality of materials, competitive pricing, and adherence to company policies. The position is responsible for the management and strategic development of our grower base in the United States and Canada supplying our chip and soup factories with fresh and storage potatoes year-round. The position is responsible for developing a grower evaluation program, rating growers’ performances based on objective attributes important to the business. The position will help develop a grower variety portfolio program of new and existing varieties that are conducive to our factories from a quality perspective. They will work with Universities, Potatoes USA, and private programs on establishing a variety trialing program with key strategic suppliers. They will work on developing new and existing growing areas and logistical opportunities for specialized equipment. They will collaborate with factories, production planning and the Corporate Buyer on day-to- day activities, from coverage to requirements, adjustments, issues and opportunities. They will execute long and short-term strategic goals and work on new innovative saving programs, collaborating as necessary with the Brand, Marketing, Operations, Innovation, R & D, and Quality. The individual will be expected to help in delivering Procurement’s financial and process goals and objectives.

Principal Accountabilities:
Strategic Accountability: Time Allocation 30%
  • Assist in the development of category strategies for all areas of responsibility. Supporting Total Procurement Value (TPV) and promote value engineering analyses to support ongoing performance improvement and cost reduction that results in tangible benefits.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, driving optimized value through strategic relationship management program.
  • Assist in managing a network of raw material suppliers that are available to meet the business needs.
  • Collaborate with Business Unit’s leadership and functional partners on strategy development for innovation, productivity, quality, service, and continuous improvement of the global category
  • Manage assigned project plans and work with cross-functional teams to manage and track deliverables from inception to launch, including but not limited to managing the approval process for new suppliers and ingredients.
  • Coordinate with all internal stakeholders to identify proper risk mitigation strategies for ingredients
  • Support all SRM initiatives with supplier and growers, and all product and platform launches to support the “Real Food” corporate strategy and “What’s In My Food” transparency programs.

Operational Accountability: Time Allocation 70%
  • Visit growers and logistic carriers on a regular basis, developing a strong working relationship.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the industry, with a proactive approach towards supply dynamics, uncovering opportunities while managing and reducing risks to the business.
  • Liaison between farm operations, business office and management.
  • Coordinate special projects such as variety development, supply chain efficiency, quality, and corrective action.
  • Inspect fields to determine crop maturity, quality, and field yield versus contract.
  • Inspect Storages for quality, storability, shrink estimates and completion dates.
  • Assist in managing the Supply Chain for smooth transition from fresh to storage and one growing area to another.
  • Key understanding of commercial varieties, developing a Campbell variety program based on quality and total solids. Develop a variety trailing process of existing varieties and new varieties.
  • Develop reports regarding status of special ops projects and vendor/crop status.
  • Ensure quality of service, competitive pricing, adherence to company policies, procurement processes and endeavors related to the operation of a proactive and strategic Global Procurement Business Unit.
  • Support leaders from Marketing, Operations, Finance, Quality Assurance, etc. for concept development, designing new programs, discussing product options, providing market education, etc. related to assigned category responsibilities.
  • Maintain systems and processes to support the day-to-day business.
  • Assist in developing and actively promoting Campbell’s Supplier Diversity Strategy.
Job Complexity:
  • Ability to proactively stay ahead of the crop and conditions, while successfully monitoring supply 365 days a year to our potato factories.
  • Ability to assist transition from one growing area to another without a gap, at the best economical options available to the business.
  • Ability to see opportunities and call out potential issues with solutions ahead of time.
  • Ability to assist in managing multiple growing areas while providing supply continuity for all Campbell factories.
  • Must have the ability to interact with team members at all levels in the organization, as well as senior leadership across multiple functions.
  • Must demonstrate strategic thought leadership in moving Procurement strategies forward with respect to assigned categories.
  • Partner with cross functional partners such as R&D, Finance, Supply Chain and Marketing across multiple business units.
  • Must be able to identify problems, generate options and recommendations for business partners.
  • Must be able to deal with ambiguity and be comfortable in a work environment with much change.
  • Partner with R&D, Supply Chain and Marketing to develop, evaluate and implement programs/projects at a sustainable and competitive cost in support of Total Procurement Value objectives
  • Develop and actively promote Campbell’s Diversity and Sustainability strategies
  • Ability to work with and manage individuals remotely and as assigned

Job Specifications:
  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Years of Relevant Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of agricultural operations, procurement and/or related supply chain/CPG industry experience required, specifically Ingredient procurement a plus

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required:
  • Excellent managerial and project management skills.
  • Ability to apply the 7 steps of strategic sourcing model.
  • Good negotiating skills and the ability to create new and cultivate existing relations.
  • Good knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work independently and with a proactive approach
  • Ability to interact at all organizational levels, domestic and international.
  • Manages large, complex, or multiple projects effectively.
  • Strong analytical skills, research background, process development and continuous improvement.
  • Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills.

  • Proficient skills in proactively creating a positive, high performing culture by developing, coaching, and connecting with everyone at all levels (both directs and those within/ outside of Procurement)
  • Proficient manager effectiveness in defining clear responsibilities and expectations for core and extended team members and proactively coaching and managing team members against set goals
  • Proficient communication, decision making, and problem-solving capabilities.

Working Conditions
  • Normal corporate office environment.
  • Business Travel within North America – 70%. Travel to Canada as required.

Compensation and Benefits:
The target base salary range for this full-time, salaried position is between
$61,800-$97,800
Individual base pay depends on work location and additional factors such as experience, job-related skills, and relevant education or training. Total pay may include other forms of compensation. In addition, we offer competitive health, dental, 401k and wellness benefits beginning on the first day of employment.
