Certified Braille Transcriber

AIS is seeking highly qualified Braille Transcribers to join our team of independent contractors with at least two years of transcription experience. Part-time opportunities available.

Qualified applicants will be able to create braille files in the following formats:

• .dbx (Duxbury)
• .brf (Braille Ready)
• .pdf
• .bbz (BrailleBlaster)
• hard copy braille

Qualified applicants will be able to create braille in any of the following braille codes:

• Uncontracted braille
• UEB
• UEB Technical (elementary through advanced)
• UEB with Nemeth
• EBAE
• EBAE with Nemeth
• Foreign Language(s)
• Music
• Tactile graphics (required access to TactileView, Corel Draw, and/or the capability of creating tactiles with braille in PDF form)

Qualified applicants will have:

• Minimum 2 years of braille transcription experience
• at least one braille transcription certification
• Access to Duxbury and/or BrailleBlaster software
• Access to an embosser
• Ability to receive text and PDF documents to transcribe into braille electronic and physical braille
• Ability to send electronic braille files in requested formats above
• Ability to accurately proofread material to produce high quality braille with no errors
