Title: Public Information Manager
Reports To: Superintendent
FLSA: Exempt
Terms of Employment: 12 months/242 days
Salary: $50,565 - $63,315
OVERVIEW OF POSITION:
The primary duties of the Public Information Manager are to plan, develop and implement the District's public relations and Public Information programs, organize and prepare Public Information, serve as a communication consultant for District staff and school sites and disseminate information using a variety of methods and media. The Public Information Manager (PIM) is under the supervision of the Superintendent.
Performance Responsibilities 1.0 School and Community Relations
1.1 Develops, implements, and maintains a district wide communication plan.
1.2 Acts as a spokesperson for the school district in responding to crisis and emergency situations.
1.3 Develops an annual report/publication of school district accomplishments.
1.4 Develops and implements district wide marketing strategies and product development.
1.5 Coordinates the web page development and maintenance for the district.
1.6 Coordinates annual recognition programs.
1.7 Serves as a liaison between the school district and the news media and supervises the production of news releases
and conducts press conferences as directed by the Superintendent.
1.8 Serves as the liaison between the school system and the community at large.
1.9 Fosters rapport between the district and the business community through active, positive involvement in civic
activities.
1.10 Coordinates regular meetings of the Superintendent, School Board, Executive Staff and business and industry
representatives.
1.11 Advises the Superintendent on the probable public relations consequences relating to shifts in existing programs and
policies.
1.12 Assists School Board, Superintendent, and Central Office staff with communication strategies designed for external
audiences.
1.13 Provides timely responses to requests for Public Information about the district, its policies, and its programs.
1.14 Serves as committees as assigned by the Superintendent.
1.15 Serves on local community and civic boards representing the school district, at the request of the Superintendent.
1.16 Serves as a classroom resource when requested by principals and staff.
1.17 Manages and maintains the school system's social media accounts.
1.18 Performs such tasks and duties which may be assigned from time to time by the Superintendent.
2.0 Governmental Operations
2.1 Disseminates information and key messages relative to legislative action to the Superintendent, staff, the School
Board, and the community-at-large as appropriate.
2.2 Collaborates with appropriate staff to review all bills before the Legislature to determine the effect on the local school
district.
2.3 Informs the Chief Financial Officer and Superintendent in a timely fashion of all governmental educational matters.
2.4 Develops and maintains working relationships with local, state, and national education associations.
3.0 Administration and Fiscal Management
3.1 Develops and oversees strategies to promote tax referendums within school district.
3.2 Plans and maintains a budget within the Public Information Department.
3.3 Complies with district budgeting and purchasing procedures.
3.4 Attends Superintendent's agenda preparation meetings and prepares materials for Board meetings and public hearings.
3.5 Uses technology and social media to enhance communications.
3.6 Proofreads and critiques selected print and video materials disseminated by the district and schools.
3.7 Supervises production developed by the school system.
4.0 Professional Development
4.1 Improves personal performance and leadership skills through professional development opportunities, coursework,
and/or professional association to ensure continued personal development/growth and District improvement.
4.2 Participates in state and national organizations related to job responsibilities.
4.3 Develops and implements a professional growth plan related to job responsibilities and aligned with District priorities
and plans for own professional growth and continuing education.
4.4 Remains familiar with current practices and research within assigned responsibilities and applies practices for
improvement.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Relations, or a business-related field. At least two to five (2-5) years successful work experiences in the field of communications and/or public relations or related field. Demonstrates leadership and administrative competence. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent human relations skills.
