The duties include but are not limited to:

  • Collects and compiles information for the comprehensive monitoring of special education services by the Alabama State Department of Education.
  • Works with the Executive Director of Special Programs to coordinate departmental activities in order to ensure compliance with federal mandates for special education and related services.
  • Provides assistance to the Special Services Resource Teachers in the daily operations of the department.
  • Handles confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
  • Prepares memos, letters, and other correspondences for the Executive Director and all Special Education Resource Teachers.
  • Maintains legal records for due process hearings.
  • Communicates with attorneys regarding due process and resolution meetings.
  • Prepares and submits travel for Special Education Resource Teachers, Itinerant SLP Teachers, and OT/PT.
  • Provides assistance to parents, teachers, principals, and Central Office personnel in matters pertaining to Special Education.
  • Prepares position control forms for submission to Budget and the Human Resources Department.
  • Prepares requisitions for departmental supplies and equipment.
  • Maintains a professional manner at all times.
  • Assists with the maintenance of Special Programs' web pages.
  • Routes all departmental communications to the appropriate personnel.
  • Prepares presentations for the Executive Director.
  • Prepares contracts for outside agencies.
  • Assumes the duties of other clerical staff in Special Programs, if necessary.
  • General office duties (typing, filing, copying, etc.)
  • All other duties assigned by the Executive Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be a high school graduate from a regionally accredited school or have GED equivalent.
Must have knowledge of computer programs including spreadsheets (i.e. Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word or equivalent word processing and accounting software).
Must have the ability to communicate clearly with the public and employees.
Must be well groomed and have good grammar and spelling ability.
Must have the ability to work well with others, to be confidential, and to organize and maintain accurate records.
Must have knowledge of operating standard office equipment including a ten-key calculator.

Salary Range: From/To Beginning pay - $39,974.00.

**Applicants selected for classified positions must undergo (or have undergone) an ABI/FBI criminal history background check (fingerprinting administered through sites selected and approved by the MCPSS and State of Alabama Education Department) and be declared suitable and fit to teach under state law. Applicants selected must also pass a drug-screening test via forms provided by Human Resources during the selection process.**
