Compensation

The range displayed reflects the range the company reasonably expects to pay for the position. The actual compensation offered to the selected individual(s) will depend on their relevant education, training, or experience, among other bona fide factors.

Expected Minimum Pay Rate

USD $65,700.00/Yr.

Expected Maximum Pay Rate

USD $87,900.00/Yr.

Responsibilities

What You Will Do

As a Category Analyst you are responsible for compiling research data, analyzing and interpreting the research information, and creating recommendations on achieving category development objectives. The Category Analyst also supports the development of a comprehensive marketing plan that will improve the performance of a category. Team Members in this position provide analytical and resource support to Category Managers. This job classification requires retail, inventory, and pricing knowledge with the proven ability to formulate marketing plans that support department objectives and goals.

How You will Make a Difference
  • You will be responsible for conducting research, producing analyses, and recommending actions to optimize category sales and margin performance.
  • You will use state-of-the-art computer systems to conduct effective research and analysis of category performance including forecasting category sales targets, product placement, assortment, and promotional lift analysis.
  • You will gather and analyze category performance across a variety of indicators, including sales, gross profit, margins, and market share. Obtaining data from a variety of internal and external sources, including internal databases, syndicated sales data software (AC Nielsen tools) and from vendors and manufacturers.
  • You will analyze item assortment, create recommendations for efficient assortment, develop solutions for product promotion, pricing, and shelf-placement, and analyze current pricing structure to assist in the development of pricing strategies by monitoring the impact of current strategies, new competition, and market trends.
  • You will perform shelf management analyses to monitor equitable sales performance and space allocation.
  • You will develop recommendations on promotional items and develops post-event performance analyses by item within the category.
  • You will support the development of the category marketing plans, writing evaluations of category marketing plans in order to measure implementation success, compliance and results.
  • You will produce weekly category metrics reporting and create ad hoc reports as requested.
  • You will tracks consumer and product trends, evaluating the competitive changes in the different markets we serve.
  • You will establish and maintain effective business relations with vendors, brokers, manufacturer representatives and professional trade groups.

Must Haves
  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, finance or a related field and a minimum of two or more (2+) years of related analytical or retail sales/merchandising experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knows and applies the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of category management.
  • Knows and applies financial/analytical skills as evidenced by successful college coursework or practical experience.
  • Knows the fundamental concepts of sales and merchandising, promotion planning and category performance analysis.
  • Understands consumer research methodologies and techniques.
  • Understands competitor, brand, and supplier strategies along with thorough understanding of the supply chain.
  • Proven understanding of the retail method of accounting.
  • Experience with data analysis utilizing sales data (REDS), customer retail scan data, as well as syndicated market data (AC Nielsen tools)
  • Ability to write queries.

  • Work is performed in a business office environment.
  • Occasional travel to outside locations or meetings may be required.
