Cashier Clerk/Floater

Job Summary:
This position is accountable for processing Utility payments as well as a variety of clerical and administrative duties for the Billing department; also, does related work as required. This position is under the supervision of the Billing Manager, Assistant to the Billing Manager, or designee who may, from time-to-time, review said work, methods of results, and give general instructions on assignments.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Must be able to perform all duties and responsibilities of the Cashier Clerk
- Be familiar with all phases of the city government and the duties of each clerk/secretary position within the public services departments in the City
- Do large volumes of work on a wide variety of subjects
- Handles the general duties that each clerk performs under their description for the Billing Office
- This classification will be cross trained and required to perform all departmental duties
- Any other work given within reason from the administration of the department
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Ability to handle and balance payments with accuracy
- Ability to multi-task
- Computer proficiency
- Thorough knowledge of the Billing policies
- Ability to operate multiple computer programs and equipment within the Billing office
- Be familiar with Microsoft Office
- Ability to maintain composure while dealing with difficult customers and/or sensitive situations but still adhere to City policies and procedures
- Dependable
- Ability to make decisions in accordance with the laws, ordinances, regulations, and department policies and procedures
- Maintain confidentiality of all information obtained
- Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with other employees and the general public
Requirements and Qualifications:
- High School diploma (GED equivalent) required
- Strong attention to detail
- Extensive experience in secretarial/clerk position with progressive responsibility
Essential Functions:
- Able to remain in a stationary sitting position for the majority of the shift
- Able to consistently operate a computer and other office equipment, such as calculator, copy machine, printer etc. and answer phones
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions
- Able to communicate via phone, radio and in person and exchange accurate information in such situations
- Able to lift 10-15 pounds
