Job Summary
This position functions as part of the Accounting Service Department, in the General Accounting Unit. This position is responsible for Accounts Receivable and statewide capital asset reporting. Responsibilities include:
- Serve as team lead of the Accounts Receivable area within the General Accounting Unit
- Serve as statewide functional expert in the area of Accounts Receivable management.
- Coordinate and oversee the statewide Accounts Receivable training program
- Coordinate work performed by state agencies in support of annual Accounts Receivable reporting
- Preparing capital asset information to be included in the State’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR)
- Reconcile Capital Assets reported in the state’s General Ledger to the Asset Management module to ensure Capital Assets are accounted for completely and accurately.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Three (3) years of professional level experience using or querying the state’s accounting system or another complex accounting system.
- A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field may substitute for 1 year of experience.
Applicants will be further evaluated on the following:
- Demonstrated ability to prepare and present financial data and reports in a professional, timely, and effective manner.
- Demonstrated ability in communicating verbally and in writing sufficient to conduct client interviews, make presentations, and document current and redesigned business processes
- Strong skills designing, building and maintaining complex spreadsheets and databases
- Analytical and organizational skills to solve problems and initiate corrective actions.
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills sufficient to establish and maintain effective working relationships with state agencies and co-workers.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
- Experience with PeopleSoft
- Experience with State of Minnesota accounting systems (SWIFT),
- Experience with Accounts Receivable accounting and/or financial reporting
- Experience with Capital Asset accounting and/or financial reporting
- Knowledge of accounting principles and processes in one or more of the following:
- General Ledger
- Accounts Receivable
- Capital Assets
- Governmental Financial Reporting
