POSITION TITLE: Campus Athletic Coordinator/Head Football Coach EXEMPTION STATUS: Exempt REPORTS TO: Principal, Executive Director of Athletics TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: As assigned per contract, 2023-2024 school year Primary Purpose: Provide instruction and coach students to develop the skill and ability to excel in the sports assigned. Responsible for contributing to the educational program as a whole and to the growth of students. Qualifications: Education/CertificationBachelor's Degree from accredited universityValid Texas teaching certificate Special Knowledge/Skills General knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures Knowledge of University Interscholastic League (UIL) rules Ability to instruct and supervise student athletes Strong organizational, communication (verbal and written), and interpersonal skills Experience: Head coaching experience, preferred Major Responsibilities and Duties: Program Management Assume responsibility for coordination of all team programs, knowledge of District and UIL policies, and consistent application of policies in areas of direct responsibility.
Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the coaching program and implement changes based on the findings. Work with the principal in scheduling athletic periods in most advantageous time frames to allow recovery time for multi-sport participation. Ensure that all coaches adhere to the UIL Code of Conduct.
Check the eligibility of all athletes and ensure compliance with all rules and regulations of the University Interscholastic League. Ensure that the evaluation process in determining team make-up concurs with current UIL recommendations and District athletic needs and goals. Prepare schedules for assigned sports and send all schedules to the Executive Director of Athletics on the appropriate dates.Work with the Executive Director of Athletics and the Athletic Trainers to schedule physical examinations with all coaches and for each athletic team and ensure that no athlete competes without an approved UIL physical.Work closely with the Executive Director of Athletics and the Director of Purchasing in preparing requests for equipment and assist head coaches with the bidding of equipment needs.
Keep the Executive Director of Athletics and Principals informed of needs in the care and maintenance of athletic facilities. Refer all requests for use of athletic facilities to the Executive Director of Athletics and Principals and coordinate the use of facilities among sports within the program. Assist the Executive Director of Athletics in preparing and maintaining an up-to-date athletic handbook of regulations and procedures for coaches.
Work with head coaches in conducting parent meetings and preparing individual sports manuals. Ensure that all team sports conduct and organize an off-season program that strengthens and conditions all athletes for their respective sports (grades 7-12). Ensure that booster clubs abide by UIL rules and that all activities are approved before undertaken.
Maintain a positive and effective relationship with campus and central office supervisory staff. Comply with all District and campus routines and regulations. Student Management Maintain proper and appropriate discipline among students during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while off campus.
Travel with student athletes and supervise the team during athletic competition in assigned sports. Develop a plan to effectively utilize multi-sport athletes and their transition to and from each sport.Instruct and advise students on NCAA regulations with regard to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices. Personnel ManagementWork cooperatively with the Executive Director of Athletics, human resources administrators, principals, and head coaches in hiring and assigning coaches to coaching positions in high school and feeder schoolsCommunication Effectively communicate with colleagues, students, and parents; and establish and maintain open lines of communication with student athletes and their parents.
Work with the Executive Director of Athletics and Principal to ensure proper public relations and publicity. Work closely with athletic trainers and head coaches in communicating with athletes and parents the proper procedures for filing insurance claims in cases of injury.Keep the Executive Director of Athletics and Principal informed of booster club activities. Articulate the district's mission and goals in the area of athletics to the community and solicit support in realizing the mission.
