Position Overview

Our Lodge Technicians are motivated, passionate pet experts working for our rapidly expanding practice. They work directly with our boarding animals to ensure that their needs are being met. Daily tasks include walking, feeding, and administering medications to our boarding animals. Daily tasks differ day-to-day, based on what services are needed during that time. This is a fast-paced environment that provides the satisfaction of helping pets of all kind and providing care to our Day Camp, boarding, and grooming clients.

Age Requirement

Minimum age requirement is 18 years old.

Education Requirement

High School diploma is required.

Experience Requirements

Animal care background is preferred, but not required.

Personal Requirements

  • Able to work closely with a large selection of animals
  • Able to work closely with vet staff and other hospital team members
  • Physical Effort: have sufficient physical strength and mobility to lift and move heavy pets and objects
  • Working Conditions: will be exposed to unpleasant odor, noises, and animal waste. May be exposed to bites and scratches
  • Have willingness and desire to provide gentle and compassionate care for boarded pets
  • Have basic understanding of computer and phone skills
  • Able to work closely with the public and have good customer service skills
  • Able to meet or exceed our mission and vision statements
  • Be familiar with breeds and coat colors
  • Be familiar with infectious diseases, including their prevention and steps to reduce or eliminate transmission. Know the most common zoonotic diseases
  • Able to show respect for clients, team members, and animals at all times
  • Able to maximize pets’ comfort with a gentle and reassuring manner

Performance Expectations

  • Able to clean and maintain kennels
  • Able to administer pet medications and feedings
  • Able to walk dogs in a timely, caring manner
  • Able to provide basic grooming (nail trims, ear cleanings) & bathing services
  • Able to monitor and recognize signs of distress and illness
  • Able to maintain overall cleanliness of lodge building
  • Able to collect and record information related to the animal (urination, bowel movements, medication logs)
  • Able to maintain basic housekeeping (dishes, laundry, etc.)
  • Able to collect fecal samples for hospital staff
  • Able to maintain accurate personal time cards
  • Have the ability to stand for an entire shift when needed, lift pets and objects weighing up to 50 pounds with no assistance, handle repetitive up-and-down or back-and-forth motions, and work while bending
  • Able to maintain a list of tasks and engage in productive work during slow periods
  • Able to participate in all staff and training meetings
  • Able to conduct tours of the practice and/or kennel. Before each tour, ensure that the facility is orderly and that staff and patients are prepared for tours
  • Be prepared to handle any pet or facility emergencies that may arise (dog fights, choking, fire, etc.)
  • Able to follow established facility closing procedures to ensure the security of patients, boarders, and the building
  • Able to check on the immunization status of arriving pets before admitting them to the facility
  • Able to advise clients of significant changes in policies or services since their last visit
  • Able to obtain and record contact information from clients to ensure that they or their agents can be reached during pets’ stays
  • Able to ensure that all boarding admission paperwork has been completed
  • Able to take custody of pets from clients, restrain dogs with the practice’s leashes, label and store clients’ collars and leashes and return them to clients promptly when pets are retrieved from facility
  • Able to note special instructions given by client
  • Able to provide clients with a summary evaluation of their pet’s boarding stay and advise them of significant events
  • Able to gather pets’ toys, bedding, and food in preparation for discharge
  • Able to check all pets for cleanliness prior to discharge. Clean, bathe, and/or groom pets prior to discharge as needed
  • Able to wash, dry, and store patients’ bedding and practice’s towels
  • Able to monitor pets and kennels or urine, feces, vomit, or blood
  • Able to collect and save urine and fecal samples
  • Able to continuously monitor pets in your care
  • Able to maintain accurate kennel records that include the number, type, and location of boarders, special diets and requirements, your observations of boarders, and treatments or medications administered
  • Able to advise the front desk when requested services were not provided due to scheduling glitches or inclement weather so that desk staff can ensure proper billing

Must be able to work afternoons, evenings, weekends, and some holidays.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $14.00 - $15.00 per hour
