The Role
The General Manager of California (GM) will join the Nabis leadership team and maintain a complete understanding of Nabis's operational processes, along with the nuances of enterprise client relationships. The ideal candidate must be exceptionally organized, process-oriented, and a master communicator. This person must be a charismatic leader who can coach managers across multiple Nabis warehouses. They must be a data driven strategic people leader who has an excellent understanding of accounting processes, P&L management, logistics and warehouse management. This person must thrive in an environment of intense pressure, short deadlines, and ever-changing requirements.
The California GM will organize, oversee, and strategize the daily and long term operations of all warehouses in California. They will command a two hundred person team across three physical locations and cities, a fleet of vehicles, setting and maintaining all operational KPIs for productivity, sustainability, and quality of service. This is an extremely high impact role within operations leadership, reporting directly into the Chief Operations Officer, to scale Nabis' services and efficiencies. The GM will maintain and iterate business standards in order to support the implementation and streamlining of all new & existing processes.
Responsibilities
- Ownership and expertise of all systems, processes, and divisions of labor within the operation, including but not limited to: Intake, Inventory, QA, Fulfillment, Transfers, Delivery/Pick-up, Freight, Cash Operations, Fleet & Facilities, Reporting, Testing, and Compliance and sub-tasks therein. Ownership of division of labor definitions and KPIs.
- Ownership of all California OKRs & KPIs and effective Performance Management SOP. Continually develop tiered programs pertaining to completion, quality, efficiency, and profitability of each division of labor that align all levels to executive level goals. Continual development of accountability programs to OKR/KPIs through daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly status updates and reporting. Regular oversight of corrective action where not meeting goals.
- Ownership of Operational SOPs &JDs - maintain and manage up-to-date and actively engaged with database of documentation on process, job descriptions, and training curriculum
- Ownership of Hiring and Training & Development programs - manage, develop, and recruit effective management and leadership talent. Own effective and continual succession planning that allows for scaling and ensures redundancy across core competencies of supply chain
- Ownership of socializing engagement and compliance to all the above across all teams, continually correcting divergence and non-adherence and building self-sustaining policies across local operations and all levels of employees.
- Forecasting. Ownership of Hourly staffing and personnel forecasting, planning, and strategy
- Ownership of California Project Management list. Approve, prioritize, consult and/or own all projects across California.
- Understand all operational connection points to Finance, including Cash Application, and Accounts Receivable. Scope and lead process improvements across cross-functional teams.
- Own general state of operational health of California and exception management. Triage all unprecedented incidents of force majeure.
- Report and answer to the executive level on all California matters.
- Ownership of California Data. Regularly produce novel insights via Excel, Sheets, and SQL and action change management based on empirical and trackable evidence.
- Interface with all Nabis departments on cross-department functions: be able to take the lead and follow where necessary.
- Day-to-day management of Ops processes and problems with insurance and compliance
- Ownership of ops-related initiatives fueling California expansion/growth
- Strategy and decision-making re: insurance and compliance
- Day-to-day management re: new business units within California (ex: Retail)
- Day-to-day management and execution re: labor policy and contracts
- Escalated or strategic partner-facing work with vendors and partners
- Strategic planning and decision-making re: in-state expansion and growth
- Ops thought leadership and engagement re: labor policy and contracts
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in operational leadership roles managing regional teams both physical and remote at companies with complex and high-growth in-person markets, with direct ownership of a P&L
- 5+ year of experience leading a team for a large and complex market or region (100+) including providing coaching and performance management while creating a culture of feedback and accountability; ability to attract, develop, and motivate top-tier operational talent that ideates on and executes operational excellence while guiding operational changes
- Detail oriented, process improvement focused, self motivated and energetic, with the drive and ability to learn new skills and grow with the role
- Proven track record of manager performance management, development and succession
- Proven track record of data-driven performance management of executive level OKRs and KPIs
- Proven track record of strong cross-team, cross-functional project management and communication skills
- Demonstrated working knowledge of real-time marketplaces (supply and demand economics) and the ability to navigate, decode, and use data to build compelling narratives and reports with experience using Excel or Google Sheets
- An infectious enthusiasm and palpable experience for understanding ground-level processes to automate and scale
- Ability to travel to frequently with up to 50% within California and be physically in warehouse a majority of the time
- Knowledge and/or experience using SQL is preferred but not required
