From a small family retail operation in Houston, our business has expanded across the US and S. America to sell over 1 Million tons per year. We supply steel for bridges, stadiums, barges and large buildings but one thing will always remain the same: We treat our customers and employees like family.
We are seeking a motivated CAD drafter for our Chesapeake, VA branch. The CAD drafter is responsible for understanding the layouts of steel designs and translating to machinery language for high volume production. The ideal candidate will have experience preparing detailed working diagrams, including dimensions, fastening methods and other engineering information. They will also ensure all work is done on time.
- Manipulate field measurements per customers and sales orders.
- Develops detailed design drawings and specifications using computer-assisted drafting (CAD) equipment.
- Coordinates with and consults other employees to design, layout or detail components and systems and to resolve design or other problems.
- Reviews and analyzes specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas and related data to assess factors affecting component designs and the procedures and instructions to be followed.
- Computes mathematical formulas to develop and design detailed specifications for components or machinery using computer-assisted equipment.
- Allocate materials to provide highest yield, utilizing remnants when available.
- Develop understanding of multiple CAD systems in order to program multiple sets of machinery.
- As required, visits field to verify dimensions and designs. Meets with owner or representative to determine requirements, coaching the owner/rep through the discussion to glean all the information needed.
- Creates a preliminary design and takes it back to the customer for approval or revision.
- Follows all company policies, procedures and safety rules.
- Conducts self at all times in a professional, ethical and courteous manner as a representative of Triple-S.
- Attend weekly production meetings.

Education and Experience:
- Associates degree in Drafting/Design or High school diploma, or general education degree (GED
- Minimum of 1-2 years manufacturing background
- Project managing skill
- Microsoft Office
- Attention to detail
- Must be able to work flexible hours and overtime
- Problem solving and analytical skills
- Must be dependable
- Able to work under pressure

- Able to work overtime if necessary
- General knowledge of 2D/CAD/Draft Sight
